Hello, everyone! I am including a link to a cute article that my sister Katie (an adoptive mom) was interviewed for. Even if you are not thinking of ever adopting, it is short and has a few good tips in it. I know that some of these things drive her crazy!

Great article! The only one that I kind of disagree with being an inappropriate question is the "Is he/she yours?"
I think this is a question asked of a lot of people, because they don't know you are the parent, the aunt, the babysitter, etc. I could see an adoptive parent assuming the question is being asked just of them, but I think it is really an innocent question asked of anyone who is holding a baby at the time.

Is your sister the one in the photo?

Sarah--Yes, my sister and niece are the ones in the photo. I agree that many people ask if a baby is "yours", but I have been with her and I definitely think that people ask her much more often than they would if the baby "looked" like her. I think this is probably a problem of interracial couples, too. In "John and Kate Plus 8", for example, those kids don't look anything like her! It isnt in the article, but I have actually heard people say some really rude things to her. I never realized that there are "anti-adoption" people out there until she adopted my niece; some people are very against it. Personally, I think it is a win-win situation!

Your niece is adorable! That's horrible that people are negative... why on earth would you criticize someone for adopting??? Some people are just negative no matter what the situation, I suppose. You could hand them an envelope full of money and they'd find a reason to complain.

I would love to adopt someday. It's always been something I've planned to do, so hopefully it's still in our cards for the future. I know DH thinks this is our last child, but I think it's just our last pregnancy.

Thanks for sharing the article!

Sarah--Thanks, she is a really sweet little girl. I did tell my sister that she is wrong about one thing; when you find out you are pregnant people DO tell you their horror stories about everything that can go wrong! I think it is great that you would consider adoption; I am not sure why some people are so wierd about it. I guess they hear only bad things and horror stories, but there are so many great stories out there, too!
