LOL I threaten about twice a year. Sometimes my DH isn't paying attention so he doesn't fully understand that I'm right, so I have to say that to get his attention and hope that he listens to me.

Wendy- You are too funny.

Cristina- I feel since those shots are so routine in the hospital it is good to put any wishes on your birth plan so that any new nurse on shift will know. My friend told them all verbally only and she was fine with her 1st child. Then her second baby was given all the shots by accident even though her doctor knew her wishes. I have read people delivering in busy hospitals as far as putting their baby in a onesie that says "No Vaccines" on it.

What we did was after Mason came out, my DH did not leave his side!! He even followed him to the NICU and stood right next to him and didn't take his eyes off him. He roomed with us so no mistakes would be made. My hospital was very respectful and GREAT about it though and I didn't have to worry like I thought I would. It was so easy and relaxed.

Girls, do all state have to allow religious exemptions? This document says that WV doesn't. But if I can find a doctor to sign off with what ever the correct code is the school will accept that. Are they allowed to do that. I posted a link where I got the info. I'm still sorting through all this info and trying to make a decision.

Ksh- Wow I see WV does only have medical exemptions. It's only Mississippi and WV that don't allow religious expemptions. That is nuts. In that case I would possibly look into either a NP that will sign medical waivers for you on which ever vaccines you are concerned about or look into a delayed spaced out schedule and that link I posted to buy the MMR seperate yourself and have your doctor administer the 3 of them each 6 months apart for safest results.

KSH - I got this from one of the sites I posted yesterday by Dr. Mercola. It should help you.

Quote:
We shall discuss medical exemption first. While laws do vary, nearly all states require that a note or certificate of waiver be submitted by a physician licensed in the state of residence. In some areas where states are small and people continually travel from one to another for business, a statement from a physician in a contiguous state will be accepted. In this letter it is usually necessary to state the reason for the requested waiver and the length of time it should extend. Many laws limit all such letters to a school year and they must be renewed each fall.
The two most valid reasons for medical waiver are "the fear of allergic reaction in a sensitive child" and "to prevent possible damage to a weakened immune system." Both of these can occur in a child who has been immunized, and since no one but the physician and the parent will be held responsible for their consequences, it is up to them to protect the child.
It is possible that some states may require the letter from an M.D. or D.O., but many will allow an exemption letter from a chiropractor if it is courteously and properly written, as outlined above.

Here's the link again in case you want to read the whole article:

Wendy - thanks for posting the link about the state specific law on non vaccinating. I too didn't want to lie and say religious exemption because it's not true. Michigan excepts all 3!

i love this thread, so many helpful links

Lauren - You're welcome. . I couldn't use the religious or medical exemption either and there is no way I could lie (just like you ). Did you see what I posted to KSH? There is a way to get a medical exemption without lying. You just have to have a fear of something bad happening from the vaccines and that is a medical reason because the doctor can't guarantee that your child will be fine. I thought that was really cool.
