Kedney- Good luck tomorrow. I'm dreading it too. I know whatever you decide to do for Jack with be the right decision for your family. It is hard when you like your peds. We have been seeing ours for 6 yrs. and I know he is going to challenge me on it. We decided to have them tested just for our peace of mind. I hate to have them draw blood, but with all the issues with the toys. I think we just would feel better. We only had one of the boy's toys be one recalled and one of Briana's art sets was. Otherwise, we are okay. Can't wait to hear how the appt. goes for you tomorrow.

Well Jack's appointment went better than I expected. She didn't fire me but said if I refuse all vaccines then she would have to discharge me. She gave me a couple websites (the cdc and aap) which I have already looked at and said she would give me and dh a call one day after hours to talk more about it. She said science proves that vaccines do not cause damage. I had to sign a waiver saying that I was going against medical advice and that if Jack got something that they weren't liable (which I understand completely). She also said that we could vaccinate at our own pace and that she and I could pick out the vaccines she thought Jack really needed at that time. She really pushed the third dose of DTaP due to pertussis being so bad on infants and said all the others could wait. I am more torn than when I started. Ugh.

kedney- That's great, it went really well for you. It went okay for me. The doctor disagreed with my wishes. He did not make me sign off on anything though. He said that I need to continue to look at the reports and both sides of the info. He agreed to delay the shots till after 2 yrs. and IF we give them to give them separately. So it went okay. He was hurt I think that I questioned him on this. But I did what I thought was right. So I stuck to my guns. Then the nurse was less than pleased with me and was not happy I would not allow the flu shot for any of them. After all that, she was most concerned about the flu shot!!

A doctor won't sign anything saying if anything happens to your child from the vaccine he is 100% liable..so I feel it really isn't their decision at all.

I know it is hard girls. I called a few pedi's before mine and they gave me a song & dance just on the phone. I have had nurses at the ER roll their eyes at me and grunt when they ask if he is up to date on his vaccines and I say we don't vaccinate. They sometimes will ask why and I will say we are against it and leave it at that. If they bug us more DH always chimes in they are poision an don't work so why would we give them to our child. That usually shuts them up. LOL It really is SOOOOO nice once you find someone who respects your decisions. Mine even told me he didn't do all the vaccines on his own children. I do not get lectured or told anything at all. There are 6 doctors there and I have seen three. Once they see that on my chart they don't even ask me. Just here is your waiver to sign. I hope you girls find that too if need be

Vicki- Here it is standard to get the lead test at 12 months. I have the b/w slip I just still need to take Mason. Waiting on when DH can go with me because I know it won't be easy to hold him to get blood drawn.

Kristy - Everything that I have read about the 'mercury free' vaccines says that there is still a trace amount of mercury in them. From what I understand, the mercury (thimerasol) is used during the incubation/creation process then extracted, but not all amounts of the mercury is removed. I recall the FDA or CDC stating that there are still trace amounts of thimerasol in vaccines, but the level is low so they consider it to be 'mercury or thimerasol free'. I think I posted the article from the CDC at one point, but I don't remember which thread it was in. I'm pretty sure it's in this one, but it might be in the original mmr thread.

Someone asked about separating the MMR vaccine. I grew up in England and had the Rubella vaccine separate when I was a teen. I never had the measles or mumps vaccine and believe I got both illnesses growing up and obviously turned out fine.

I watched those videos over the weekend that I had posted last week. There was something in the one that really hit me and makes me wonder if it is the cause of my infertility. Not that I have had mass quantities of tetanus shots, but I know that I have had a couple (the last in high school) Here is some of it...

An astonishing journal paper. 1 November, 1993. FASEB Journal, volume 7, pp.1381-1385. Authors—Stephan Dirnhofer et al. Dirnhofer is from the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. A quote from the paper: "Our study provides insights into possible modes of action of the birth control vaccine promoted by the Task Force on Birth Control Vaccines of the WHO (World Health Organization)."A birth control vaccine? What? Yes. A vaccine whose purpose is to achieve non-pregnancy where it ordinarily could occur.Sterilization? This particular vaccine is apparently just one of several anti-fertility vaccines the Task Force is promoting. Yes. There is a Task Force on Birth Control Vaccines at WHO. This journal paper focuses on a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin B (hCG). There is a heading in the paper (p.1382) called "Ability of antibodies to neutralize the biological activity of hCG." The authors are trying to discover whether a state of no-fertility can be achieved by blocking the normal activity of hCG. They state, "We conclude from our results that both the efficacy and safety of the WHO vaccine are not yet ensured."
Another journal paper. The British Medical Bulletin, volume 49,1993. "Contraceptive Vaccines" is the title of the paper. The authors—RJ Aitken et al. From the MRC Reproductive Biology Unit, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK.
"Three major approaches to contraceptive vaccine development are being pursued at the present time. The most advanced approach, which has already reached the stage of phase 2 clinical trials [human trials testing efficacy], involves the induction of immunity against human chorionic gonadotro-phin (hCG). "In 1995, a Catholic human rights organization called Human Life International accused the WHO of promoting a Canadian-made tetanus vaccine laced with a pregancy hormone called human choriogonadotropic hormone (HCG). Suspicions were aroused when the tetanus vaccine was prescribed in the unusual dose of five multiple injections over a three month period, and recommended only to women of reproductive age. When an unusual number of women experienced vaginal bleeding and miscarriages after the shots, a hormone additive was uncovered as the cause.
Apparently the WHO has been developing and testing anti-fertility vaccines for over two decades. Women receiving the laced tetanus shot not only developed antibodies to tetanus, but they also developed dangerous antibodies to the pregnancy hormone as well. Without this HCG hormone the growth of the fetus is impaired. Consequently, the laced vaccine served as a covert contraceptive device. State and County officials in Maryland have announced they will send parents to jail if they don't submit their children to forced vaccinations. State Attorney General Glenn F. Ivey has announced he is willing to criminalize parents if they don't bring them to the courthouse to have them injected, on the spot, with vaccines that contain methyl mercury -- a highly toxic nerve chemical that causes brain damage and is linked to autism. The dangers of vaccines

What's clear is that there is a substantial and scientifically validated link between vaccinations and neurological disorders in children. Maryland state officials apparently have no concern over this matter and are enforcing mandatory vaccinations as if the injections were entirely harmless. This myopic view of the safety of pharmaceuticals is typical of state officials and conventional medical doctors, both of whom are almost always influenced to a large degree by the financial aims of powerful pharmaceutical companies. (Doctors, for example, aren't even taught about the dangers of mercury in vaccines and are told that ALL drugs are safe for use on children, even if those drugs have never been tested on children!)

Due to the enormous amount of information now available about the dangers of vaccinations, there is no question that concerned parents have a right -- if not the responsibility -- to consciously object to the harming of their children via such vaccines. Rejecting mandatory vaccinations is one of the most responsible health decisions an informed parent can make. It is, in fact, all the mindless parents who submit to such vaccinations who are demonstrating a complete lack of concern for the health of their children. These are, no doubt, the same parents who feed their children processed foods, soda pop and school lunches (which contain numerous harmful chemical additives such as sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate and artificial food colors).

NewsTarget) Using antibiotics in the first year of life may significantly increase a child's risk of contracting asthma by age 7, according to a study conducted by researchers at University of Manitoba and McGill University in Montreal and published in "CHEST," the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians.

The researchers examined a prescription database that included information on 13,116 children and compared incidence of asthma with a variety of risk factors, including antibiotic use, gender, maternal asthma history, living location, neighborhood income, the presence of pets in the home and the number of siblings at the age of seven.

The study concluded that those who had received antibiotics for the treatment of a non-respiratory tract infection in their first year were twice as likely to suffer from asthma at the age of seven than those who had not. The higher the number of treatments, the higher the child's risk of asthma.

Eighty-seven percent of children who had received antibiotics were treated for respiratory tract infections. Because respiratory tract infections early in life may be a sign of developing asthma, however, the researchers excluded these cases from the sample in order to be sure the effect they were observing was related only to the antibiotics.

The researchers also found that maternal history of asthma significantly increased a child's risk of the disease. The presence of the dog in the house during the first year of life, however, led to a reduced risk of contracting asthma. Among children who received multiple treatments with antibiotics, those with the dog in the house suffered half the asthma risk of those without.

"Dogs bring germs into the home, and it is thought that this exposure is required for the infant's immune system to develop normally. Other research has shown that the presence of a dog in early life protects against the development of asthma," said lead researcher Anita Kozyrskyj.

Herbal Alternatives to the Flu Shot (Part 1)


NewsTarget) I received my doctor’s annual reminder in the mail today: “Get Your Flu Shot!” I never have before, so why should I this year? You’d think he’d have given up on me by now. Furthermore, the medical community insists that to be a "good mother", I must give the flu vaccine to my 18-month-old son. Along with all of the other vaccines they think he needs.

But I don’t, and wont, get the flu shot. Nor will my son. There’s no need, since with a few really fine herbal recipes and common sense hygiene, I can make my family much healthier than they would ever be with an ineffective and potentially dangerous flu shot.

So this is the time of year that I get out my trusty herbal allies and start formulating my “winter” medicines. I make a lot, since inevitably a friend or client will insist that I share my wealth. And I’m happy to do so.

Every herbalist worth the name has a version of this fantastic formula. It’s now available for sale, but is quite expensive. I don’t pay high prices, though. I pay somewhere around $10 a quart to make it myself. Fire Cider, Cyclone Cider - call it what you will, I call it magic.

Grab a few handfuls of the following, all fresh: ginger, onion, horseradish, garlic, & lemon. Roughly chop them up and pack into a 1-quart canning jar, leaving a few inches at the top. Add anywhere from 1/2 to 2 teaspoons (or more if you like it really spicy!) of cayenne pepper. Cover with organic raw apple cider vinegar. Cover the top of the jar with a square of waxed paper before placing lid on, then seal. This is to stop the acid in the vinegar corroding the metal lid.

Shake well and leave on your kitchen counter, out of direct sunlight. Every time you walk by that jar, give it another shake. You may also want to talk to it, sing, recite poetry, smudge sacred herbs, dance, tell it a good joke or whatever you like to make your medicine more potent.

For two weeks, shake the jar and do your magic. At the end of two weeks, pour it through a kitchen strainer, wash your canning jar out well, and return the liquid to the jar. You may want to add, at this point, a few tablespoons glycerin (which will give it a pleasant sweetness, a nice foil for the hot, tart taste) or honey. If you add honey, you’ll need to refrigerate it, but glycerin requires no refrigeration. I strongly recommend buying some 2 ounce dropper bottles because you’ll want a bottle a your desk, in your kitchen, by your bedside, and in the car. Use liberally to boost immunity, fight infection, soothe the throat, open the sinuses, stimulate circulation and energy, and generally improve health. Add to soup or salad to spice them up and give a boost-though I usually just drop it directly into my mouth.

Elder-Ginger Syrup is another staple in my winter medicine cabinet. Israeli virologists have found that elderberry extract has been shown to be specifically active against the influenza virus, blocking replication very effectively. Elder has many other health attributes as well, and is exceptionally safe - even for my toddler. All of that, and it’s quite tasty, too.

Simmer 1 cup dried elder berries in 2 cups distilled water for 30 minutes. Strain well. Return to pot and add 4 tablespoons grated ginger. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain again, return to pot, and simmer over low heat to reduce liquid to 1 cup. Add 1 cup of honey, organic sugar or maple syrup, and 1/4-cup brandy as a preservative. Use 1 tablespoon 4 times a day at the first sign of flu, or take daily as a preventative. Very nice added to hot teas, or just in hot water with some lemon.

Everyone runs to the health food store for echinacea-goldenseal tincture when they have a cold, and for good reason—it’s one of the foundation items for fighting colds and flu and stimulating immune activity to assist in throwing off viral or bacterial infection. But please - $15 for 1 ounce? You can do better than that.

Take 1 ounce each of (all organically grown please!) echinacea root, goldenseal or Oregon grape root (similar benefits, but Oregon grape root has not been drastically over harvested like goldensea
