Default Non Vaccinating Mom's Support

I wanted to start a place where us non vaccinating moms & future non- vaccinating moms can go to each other for support. I want it to be a nice place where it won't be a debate. Just a place to go to for help if a doctor gives one of us a hard time, share any articles, or have any questions.

I have been reading about vitamin supplements to give so that the babies are extra protected through cold season with all the live virus flu shots out there. It will also help with any vaccines other children get to keep our child's immune system strong as an extra defense from catching anything. I am taking Mason to a naturopath and I will share the info & plan as soon as I find out what the doctor suggests.

Great idea Judith! Thanks for creating this thread. Liam has his 2 month appt. tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it. I really hope they don't give me a hard time about not vaccinating Liam. I am a bit nervous about him being in the office where there are other babies getting their shots. This will expose him to the viruses then right? I am so afraid of him catching whooping cough while there! Do you have any suggestions?

Wendy- Happy 2 months Liam!! I think a brief doctor visit in passing is not going to have him catch anything. Not all vaccines have live viruses. A lot of them will only effect the child they are given to. He will be fine and his immunity gets built more & more everyday with you BF-ing him.

I know where you are coming from and I used to think at the doctor's office, did the person in the room just before have shots? Will there be all diseases floating around in there? LOL

I have had Mason at Gymboree and playgroups with kids that have been recently vaccinated and he has been fine. If I know someone recently had the MMR I try to stay away for 2 weeks because it is a live one. You should have seen us hiding from our in-laws after their flu shot last year!! LOL I'm sure there have been kids at Gymboree he has been around sooner and I just remind myself he has an uncompromised immune system and it will protect him. I am getting more relaxed about things but I am very interested in getting him on the Vit C supplements to boost his immune system for even more protection.

GL tomorrow and let us know how it goes.

For the kiddos that can eat you guys should look at Juice plus. It has so many good things in it and I found that it is great for boosting the immune system.

My kids take it in a gummy form. Molly is involved in a study group of kids 6-8 so she is taking it for free right now. I have really seen a lot of improvement in her ability to fight off infection. Morgan was not sick once this last winter, not even a runny nose. I am hoping now that Mollys tonsils are out we will see the same thing with her.

Lisa- That's great. Mason can't do a gummy yet. I will keep it in mind.

I was at my mommy & me playdate today with 5 moms. One comes out and says to another I have decided I am not giving the MMR shot tomorrow. She said her nephew developed Autism after his only 2 years ago!! (So much for them being made safer after 1999) The other mom says she doesn't believe it's from the shot but has 2 weeks to decide.

Then they said another mom in the group had her son's 6 month shots last week and he had problems breathing and his lips turned blue. They rushed him to the ER and he was in the hospital for 3 days. They said it was a reaction to the vaccines the hospital thought the combination of them all so he now is suppose to only get one at a time.

It was SO hard biting my tongue but I didn't want to get into anything and I haven't ever shared with these women I don't vaccinate Mason. I did add my nephew developed Autism after his MMR but that was it.

It was good to hear some local mom thinking about these issues. Unfortunately it usually happens after something bad happens to someone they know and see it with their own eyes.

Great thread Judith. Thank you!!

I too have been concerned about taking Marissa in to the Doctor for her 1st grade check up. I currently love her pediatrician now b/c his son has ADHD and so this Doctor can really relate to my and Marissa's situation with ADHD. He has been wonderful in that area. However, I have not finished nor will I finish Marissa's immunizations and I don't know if he will try to talk me into getting her vaccinated. At least now I know I don't have to finish vaccinating her and I'm standing my ground

Here is a link that I found on a local naturopath's website.

Essential Eating is the only book that provides a common sense eating lifestyle that teaches you how to cure daily dis-eases and lose excess weight through improved digestion. Essential Eating outlines an eating lifestyle based on nutritious foods that are easy-to-digest without drugs for indigestion. Discover how to replace hard-to-digest food such as white flour, white sugar and milk with delicious whole foods including sprouted grain flour, maple sugar, yogurt milk and yogurt cheese.

A couple other links that you might find helpful....

One link on their site made me chuckle. It was for TCOYF!!!

Tammy- Thanks. I'm sure you will have nerves and questions before Alyssa's 15 month check up and I just want a place we can figure all this out together and support each other.

Rebecca- I need to check those links out. Thank you!!

Gina- I am pm-ing you.

We are the minority and this choice is not and easy road. I am very proud of mine & DH choice with Mason that I used to share it a lot. I would get put down and have to argue my choices by relatives who would just blurt out naive things like "It's a law" or "your child can't go to school then. You better look into that." Ummm Hello I have for 7 years!! They just haven't educated themselves. You guys may encounter some of the same.

The best advice I can give you is this is your business and now I do not share this info or my decision with anyone locally anymore and my life is so much easier!!

I think with each other's support we will feel more comfortable and reassured with our choices that we feel is best for our children.

Judith~ Thank you for the heads up on what I could expect from others. I'ts unfortunate you had to endure some of the naive things people say, but on the other hand, I have learned a lot from the info that you have given to me. Thankfully you have been able to help others such as me.

I got your PM and thank you!!

I too have some info that I would like to post here, but I won't have the time to do it until tonight. I love this book I've been reading... So much information.

Liam's appt went well for the most part. He's in perfect health and in the 95% for height and weight. He was 24 inches long and is 13 pounds. When the doctor mentioned his shots, I told him we aren't going to vaccinate. His eyes got all big and he started lecturing me about the danger of death by chicken pox. He said 100 people around the world died last year from it. Then he "fired" us. So, now we are going to look for a new doctor. I'm feeling sad, because I liked this doctor, but I have to do what is best for my son (and I don't think vaccinating him is it).
