Sounds great, Krissy! So glad you like it. Sometimes I think things just get busy and it's hard to get the information out right away. Yay to a great daycare.

Krissy-glad the new toddler room is working out! Avery loves her daycare so much that I can't even imagine the day when she has to say "goodbye"

Thanks girls It takes so much stress off of me to like the daycare situation. When I picked him up yesterday, they were having snack, so I just came in and sat next to him. He turned, gave me a kiss, then continued having snack and "talking" to his friends. When he was done, he got up, pushed in his chair, and then proceeded to carry his napkin and little dixie cup across the room and throw it in the trash. You should have seen the look of pride on his face!! Priceless

We had a wierd day. I think Ely broke his nose. Here's what happened; I picked him up at school this afternoon, right after naptime. I walked in, and no one said anything to me, and I walked over to his table where he was having snack, and he looked up at me--this is when I realized something was wrong. You know the spot between your eyes where you might pinch if you have a headache? Well, that area is completely swollen and blue. Two black eyes, too. He looks like a racoon. I asked the girls in the room, and they seemed pretty clueless, told me that another girl was with him when he fell outside and that she wrote up an accident report for me. I read it, and it just said he fell playing outside--nothing more. Apparently the big huge bruise didnt show up until after nap, and she was gone by then. Anyways, I brought him home, he seems fine, and I called the doc who told me to wake him every few hours tonight just to be safe and that he may have a break, but they wouldnt do anything about it tonight, anyways, so I can wait and bring him in tomorrow if the swelling is worse. He asked me if he was knocked out at all, but of course I could not answer that. I have been worried sick, and he looks pretty rough, but like I said, he is acting totally normal. In fact, he was in a good mood all night.
So, He probably fell playing in the little playhouse they have outside, but I am still mad. What, if anything, do I say to the daycare? I mean, its not like this couldnt have happened when I was watching him--he thinks he is a monkey and does try to climb everything and sometimes gets hurt, but this is pretty serious. Do I have any right to be mad at them, or am I just a scared mom overreacting? The whole thing just has me sick. . .

Krissy I would bring up the vague accident report to the head of the daycare....I would also mention how no one said a thing about the incident till you mentioned the black eyes and swollen nose....further I think they should have called the off duty care giver and asked the needed questions to assist you....I would definately make your feelings known....

Krissy I dont think it can be broken Im pretty sure that there is no bone yet until they are like 7 or 8 years old but it can be badly bruised and painful... I just read that somewhere.... maybe in my babys first year week by week? on another note I would have been absolutely furious that no one said anything as you walked or or called if it was serous enough for two black eyes and a swollen face I would expect a phone call at least a warning im sure it was just an accident but they have the responsibilty to inform you and to not act as if its not a big deal when it clearly is... thats just my opinion I would tell them that in the future should anything like this happen again you would like a phone call so you dont walk over to your son and see that he looks like he was in the boxing ring....

Krissy-not sure if you remember, but Avery fell at daycare and hit the corner of her eye against the bottom of the couch and they called me right away. Since there was no swelling at the time and I didn't realize how bad it was, I didn't go get her right away but told them to keep an eye on it. She called me right after nap time because it was badly swollen and bruised. We had to go to the ER and it ended up being nothing more than a bruise ($700 and a CAT scan later!). I guess I am sharing that story because I was upset enough that she had gotten hurt, but would have been FURIOUS had she not called at all and I went to pick her up and saw her with that big bruised eye!! So you are not being unreasonable at all. I think you should speak with the director or whoever isn in charge about how it was handled. Poor Ely!

Krissy~ I would be furious! someone should have called you asap, even if just to tell you he fell. I would want to speak to the girl who wrote up the report just to see what more detail she could give you. It would just make me feel better to know what kind of supervision he had when it happened. Kids fall and accidents happen, I get that, but someone should be able to give you more information.

Well, two updates;
First, it turns out babies CAN break their nose, but Im not sure if Ely did. The doc said it may have a slight break, but that there is no deviated septum, so there is not much point in doing the xray since they really wouldnt DO anything for it at this age, anyways. Luckily it does not look crooked, so even if it is broken, it will hopefully just heal up. He looks AWFUL today, but seems totally fine. It was really hard to wake him up three times in the night to make sure he didnt have a concussion, but I did it and he was fine.
Second--the daycare. I spoke with the girl who was with him when it happened, and I am not really too mad anymore. It did not bruise at all at the time, and she insists he did not cry for more than a minute. If they called me everytime he fell and cried for a minute I would get a LOT of calls (he seems to think he is an invincable monkey) Anyways, she wasnt sure exactly what happened, just said they were playing near the playhouse and she turned around and when she turned back he was getting up and crying. There was no bruise, so she thought it was fine and wrote up the accident report. They went to nap shortly after, and it was when he woke up that he had swelled up and bruised--at that point, I was twenty minutes from picking him up, so they just gave him his snack while they waited. I mean, it is all understandable, and given that he is incredibly accident prone, I believe everything they said. I still am a bit annoyed, but more that they didnt seem to treat it very seriously. I think some of my annoyance is just that I hate seeing him hurt (even though he is not acting hurt at all), and I want to blame someone. Overall, I dont think there is too much they could have done differently, so I guess I will just wait and see if it ever happens again. I think it was a fluke--if this type of thing were to happen again I would be furious, though, because I just cannot imagine this could happen more than once and be a coincidence.

Krissy-I know exactly what you mean about being upset that he is hurt and feeling like you want to blames someone. I think anytime they get hurt at daycare it brings up all my worries/insecurities about the fact that they have to be in daycare in the first place It is good that the details seem to fit together.

SO when I got Ely home last night, I noticed a HUGE bruise on his neck. I totally freaked out, because that seems like a really wierd place to get a bruise. There was no accident report from the daycare, so I was livid and thinking the worst. THis morning, I didnt even check the bruise because we were running so late, but when we got to the daycare I immediately questioned them (and I was pretty annoyed sounding), and when I went to show them, it was gone. Turns out they played with blue sidewalk chalk yesterday. I feel like such a overprotective schmuck!!!
