Default HELP! There's a dead bird in my dryer!

I came home on Friday and kept hearing a squeak from my dryer. Well I figured out it was coming from the hose that connects to the dryer. BIL came over and found a tiny baby bird in there and took him out. He checked the hose and the wall to make sure there were no more. Then yesterday I dried some clothes and they STUNK. I thought maybe they had sat in the dryer too long so I put them back in the washer and dried another set of clothes and they STINK even worse. DH stuck his hand in where the hose attaches (ewww) but he can't find anything. It stinks even worse in there this morning. Anybody have and idea how to find the dead bird and get it out. At this moment I'm thinking we need to buy a new dryer.

I was just thinking - OK, here goes the rest of our tax refund, but, if the dead bird is somewhere in the wall between our laundry room and wherever the exhaust is released, the same thing will happen with a new dryer. I love my DH but right now I want to call FIL and ask him to come help.

wow, that's a first. I agree double check that there is not one any where else in the line, wall, dryer. I don't know if there is anything you can use to get that smell out. About the only thing I can think of is to see if there is any type of product with baking soda in it that you could run through the dryer. My dh's exactly words is that "sucks". He said to tell your dh to take the back panel off the dryer, because one could have got in through the exhust and back there. I'm sorry to hear about this. It has to be horrible!!!!

Kelly - I told my dh about it and he said the same thing as Vicki's dh..... there should be a panel on the back that screws off.

Then at the hardware stores they have those things you use to clean out lint from the hose. I would run one of those though the hose too.

Ontel Dryer-Max Lint Removal Kit : Target

I am so sorry.

Thanks to you and your DH's for help. I looked up some ideas online as well. We used the leaf blower to blow out the exhaust that runs through the wall. An entire nest, feathers, and an egg blew out. We took the dryer outside and I vaccuumed it out, too. The dryer seems to smell better. The vent is running and the door is open to the laundry room right now. I guess we'll give it a few hours and see what things smell like then. Meanwhile - it's a good thing I bought some new clothes yesterday b/c I don't have anything clean to wear. I think I better wash some panties and hang them to dry.

I don't have any help to offer, but Dh found a bird's nest in the vent of our dryer (I think the vent going out of the house)! It didn't cause anything to smell, but it was taking twice as long for the clothes to dry. I hope you figure it out soon.

kelly-I'm glad everything is out now. I hope the smell continues to go away. That stinks, but at least you found it and it will probably work great now too.
