Default Car

I think now that there is a baby on the way I might need a new car.
I probably will be a stay at home mom once the baby comes. I have until March 2008 to figure that out as I am taking a leave of absence from work. So that means we have to cut down on our bills.

I have a 1999 Honda Civic 2 door. That is paid for and runs great. I hate to spend money on something that will only decrease in value. DH has a 4 door car that I hate to drive. It is so big but I could learn to drive it. DH almost needs his car as he doesn't fit in my little Civic.

Do you think I can get away with a 2 door with a new baby?
What do you drive and does it work with a baby?

I really would love one of the new Honda CRVs but that is more than I think I should spend. I think I would have to get a used one.

I would definately switch to a 4 door if you could. With Jonathan my ex bought me a mazda protege that I loved and I ran into the ground.

Now I drive a Honda Accord and I love it, it's roomy. leather seats so it's easy to clean. My protege had material seats and boy did things get stinky in there with spilled milk etc.

also want something with a big trunk. both of those had big trunks.

we are fine so far with our 2 door, Im only worried about when I have to install her 3in1 carseat ( since she will still have to be rearfacing until she is 1 year old)... she is still fitting in her carry carseat just fine & by the time she either learns to walk on her own or when she reaches 11 months old ( whichever comes 1st) we are going to stop using the carry carseat.. I think it would be embarrassing for someone to see her in it and ask how old she is ( If I have to take her out I always bring her stroller to snap the carseat into )

what you really want to make sure is the backseat is big, some of the convertable carseats are HUGE ( rear facing!!!, like eddie bauer, but I love our carseat) and are hard to fit,,,then the person sitting in the front is not comfortable as they are pushed too farward..

We have the carry car seat in our 2 door & the MIL has the eddie bauer 3 in1 car seat in her car, its a 4 door so getting her in is easy..we will soon need the MIL to give us the carseat back as she will be getting too big for the carry one..

if you have any questions about car seats visit us in the baby is here thread... lots of mom's will give their opinion..

We have both carseats on the passanger side... we had them checked when dd arrived and we were told to move them either behind the driver or the passanger NOT in the middle, as if we got into an accident the carseat could fly forward into the windsheild of the car...having it behind the driver or passanger PREVENTS that
