Adoption Tax Credit Legislation, 2007
Here is another letter for our lovely legislatures - this one I didn't send - but I hope some of you will.
Support the Adoption Tax Credit Legislation
Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to ask you to support the Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee Act, S561/HR471, legislation that would make permanent the tax credit available for families who adopt.
Couples struggling with infertility face enormous financial burdens in building a family, and often they exhaust their clinical options before engaging in the costly process of adoption. As you may know, important steps to reduce those financial burdens were realized when President Bush signed into law the Hope for Children Act.
The Hope for Children Act doubled the tax credit to $10,000 for couples who adopt children, increased the income limitations so that more families were eligible for the credit, and liberalized the credit for families adopting children with special needs who may incur little or no expense in connection with the adoption process.
However, because the adoption tax credit is set to sunset in 2011, it is critical that Congress enact legislation to make permanent these incentives. S561/HR471 would accomplish this by repealing the sunset provisions entirely.
Please support S561/HR471 and help the thousands of prospective adoptive families throughout the country.
Sincerely,
|
