Kanieka-I haven't had any pain except for at 3-4 weeks when a small place on my incision opened up and then my stomach was sore. Try not to over due.
Well I hope everyone had a good weekend/4th of July. My MIL rented a house at the lake for the weekend. We went down and did some swimming and fishing. What was good was we took turns doing these things so I didn't have to drag Isabella out in the heat. I guess it was fun all except the argument me and DH got into. |

So it looks like I have no more BF pain...
I feel like I am a pro now...lol... I am soooooooooo glad that I kept with the BF. We dont even supplement anymore...the only thing I need to start doing is pumping... How long are you supposed to pump? Someone told me at least twice as long as you feed...is that true? |

K--Pumping varies for everyone, but I would start soon because sometimes it takes awhile for your body to get good at it. I wish I had pumped during my maternity leave and had some stored away. About the baby acne--Ely got it terribly, and we put hydrocortisone on it. It went away within 12 hours of applying it! We used it once or twice a day for about 3 days, and then we would put a little on every now and then if he broke out. You need to becareful with it, though. Buy the hydrocortisone CREAM (not ointment), and DO NOT let her get it in her eyes, because it has some steroid in it. We watch him carefully until it dries (just a few minutes) to make sure he doesnt rub it into his eyes.
Well, that is the LAST time we take Ely to our home town for the weekend. It is not enough time to make it worthwhile, and he had a miserable time. He cried everytime ANYONE that wasnt me tried to hold him, and cried everytime I set him down. SO, I ended up carrying 22.5 lbs of baby around with me everywhere I went all weekend. Then, in the middle of the night last night, he started puking. I dont mean spitting up like babies do, I MEAN PUKING! I was so scared, and so was he! He is cutting a tooth, so I don't know if it is from that\, or if he has a bug. Meeting my MIL didn't go great, either. She has a yappy little dog and it scared Ely; he cried, and then she refused to put the dog away! Everytime it came near him he got upset, scared, and cried. I was SOOO mad at her; why would you do that to him!?! Needless to say, we got out of there as fast as possible. She was nice to him, but she just didnt seem as excited about meeting her baby's baby as I had expected. |

kanieka- im glad you stuck with it too. you are a pro now! adn about the pain, i know with other surgeries too much activity will make incisions hurt so i would assume its the same with c/s
krissy- aww im so sorry the trip wasnt what you expected. i know i get upset sometime when my mil doesnt seem as interested as i would like with luke but then just think of all the people that adore him and love him! give him an extra hug from me i was at a baby shower today and my friend had this super cool cover for bf. it was by bebe au lait. it covered everything, had a spit clothe part, and a little flexable thing so you could see the baby without showing your goodies. i have seen others but none that nice. she said they are expensive but she got hers on ebay. do you guys have nursing covers? |

Crystal-my friend made me a "hooter hider" and so far I love it!
Jen-so are you in the 2ww? ! Krissy-sorry the visit to the MIL didn't go so well. Kanieka-Violet has "baby acne" too, pretty bad. I always heard to leave it alone, but if you try Krissy's suggestion let me know if it works! So I am a little concerned that Violet isn't too keen on the bottle. She's had one regularly since one week old and Dh has had no problems giving it to her while I've been gone. But yesterday when I tried to give it to her, she kept choking and spitting it out. (even when Dh tried). Eventually she took it when I held her like I was BF and fed her sideways, but I could tell she was having trouble figuring out to suck on it differently (am using Avent bottles). If anyone has any other tips, let me know! Since I have to go back to work, bottles are a must. I think I'm going to give her one a day to get her more familiar with it. I also think she prefers the taste of BM to formula. |

Bina - Hannah couldn't handle the Avent bottles well when I was still BF. They were too fast (even the slowest stage) and the nipple was too long. I used the Breastflow bottle by The First Years (got them at BRU) and she did much better w/ those. We did use the Avent ones later when I stopped nursing.

Thanks, girls. I was really hoping that the baby would bring MIL and I together, but apparently we will just never be great friends. Sigh. I don't understand her, and she obviously doesnt understand me. She is coming on Saturday to stay 3 nights with us (we told her NO dog), so that should be interesting.
Ely now gets (in addition to all the baby food I make) Gerber puffs, Egg Yolk (He LOVES it), applesauce, and tonight we are starting cottage cheese! It is so cool to give him some stuff that I dont have to make! Jen--I was going to post in your thread, but will just say it here--GOOD LUCK! I am thinking about you and those little embies!!! I can't believe you are already in 2ww AGAIN! Bina--We use Dr. Browns. Ely ONLY gets them at daycare, and when I teach night classes, so he gets about 5 a week? Not many. Anyways, he has always done well with them, and if she has any gas/colick/or reflux issues the dr. browns are really good for that. I always had heard to leave the baby acne alone, too, but Ely kept itching at his, and that is when the dr. said that it wouldnt do any harm to try the hydrocortisone. I am so glad I did--it didnt dry him out or anything, just cleared it right up. Hope Violets gets better soon! |

Oh, about the nursing covers--I bought one, but I only used it once. Ely gets really mad if I cover him up while eating; he bats at the cover/blanket until I take it off. I just feed him without anything over us, now, but I have gotten really good about holding him and my arm and hands in such a way that no one can see anything. It would be convenient if the baby would let you use it, though.

Jen and Krissy - My pedi told me to try Dr. Browns because of the nipple. When we went to Target they only had the Stage 2 and 3 nipples and the flow is faster than the ones for my LO age...so we need to look somewhere else for the Stage 1 size.
I do need to start pumping though. I get tired of popping out the breast in the middle of the night...ha ha ha... I just know that once I do go back to work I will not always be with her to eat. I also would like to figure out if its the nipple that she doesnt like or if its the formula...but that requires me to pump... Crystal - I feel better now but the incision pain was like the pain that I was having about 2 weeks after I had the surgery...NOT fun! |

Kanieka-I actually find BF at night to be what is most convenient, especially when you figure out how to do it laying down! And about pumping, I always read to do it for 15-20mins,but I do more like 10-15 (using a double electric pump). Once you get used to pumping, you can tell when you've gotten all the milk out. I may have missed a post, but is Kyliah refusing the bottle?

K--Wierd, I have never even seen the stage 2 or 3 dr. browns. I thought that when you bought them they just always came with a stage 1 nipple? I use the glass Dr. Browns, and I got them at babiesrus. I agree with Bina; I would hate to have to get up and warm a bottle in the middle of the night, and now that Ely eats lying down I pretty much sleep right through nursing him. He still eats once or twice during the night (I guess I should try to stop that?) I only pump for daycare, because I think that it seems like a waste of time to spend 20 minutes pumping AND 20 minutes giving him the bottle when I could just pop my boob out once and be done. My nieces always pump a bottle when they take their LO's out because they just couldnt get used to nursing in public, and I always feel badly for them. It is a good idea to start a freezer supply, though. Oh, and I have to pump for 20 minutes in order to get all the milk. At first it took even longer. I never have figured out how to empty my bb's with the pump; my body just hates that thing!

I always wondered why breastfeeding babies don't always have an ear infection. With Hannah she got a ear infection when she was a baby and the doctor told me that I should try holding her head up more because laying her down and letting her have a bottle would cause an ear infection..it seems that I read somewhere that breastfeeding reduced ear infections.
I guess I couldn't have breastfeed this time. I never got any milk in at all..I never leaked or anything.. When will Isabella start making cooing noises or start laughing out loud? It seems I can't remember when Hannah hit these milestones. |

Bina - In the beginning, we were supplementing formula and Ky was using the Nuk Nipple. Now, she doesnt want the bottle PERIOD but I am wondering if it is what is inside the bottle (formula)...thats another reason that I need to pump so we can figure it out...
Krissy - Maybe I should try BRU for the nipples...we went to Target...that could make a big difference... |

Hi all. Just checking in on everyone. Jax is doing great. He sleeps 6-8 hours at night, so I have to get up in the middle of the night to pump. He has baby acne so bad. Bladen had it too, but had it forever. I'm hoping Jax doesn't have it as long. It also takes him awhile to drink out of a bottle as he hardly has one. I'm only pumping to freeze or if I'm gone for some reason, but usually he is always with me. DH and I have an overnight date to Kid Rock and hotel, so I'm hoping Jax does ok without me. I'm also kind of worried about being at the concert and having my boobs explode - anyone have any advice?
Bladen and Reese are still loving their little brother, it is very cute. I'm starting to sell my maternity and fertility monitor on eBay. Never done that before, so it's kind of exciting. With 3 kids under 3, I'm definitely done having babies. I'm sad, but I know I can't handle anymore. Oh and my c-section is all healed and feels fine. Sore to the touch, but I'm going up and down stairs all day and not to mention up and down from the floor - remember 3 in diapers...oh what fun!! I got Reese in a diaper study and got 3 packages of diapers for free - hoping I can find something like that for the other kids as well. Every little bit helps. Keep those baby pics coming!! Shannon |
