Default December Baby Chat

Didn't see one already started so I took the liberty of doing so.

Just this morning Dominic has discovered his feet. He holds them up and stares at them. It's really cute.

I weighed him yesterday afternoon and he is up to 12 pounds now. He has exactly doubled his birth weight!

We are going shopping for his party today to get some knick-knacks and such.

Awwww! That has to be cute!

I seriously LOVE your ideas for unbirthday parties and stuff like that. My DH would tell me i was crazy. He thought I was weird for singing happy birthday when Graham was a week old.

We learned the hard way that Graham is allergic to generic baby wipes. His poor little bum was so raw. As soon as we went back to pampers sensitive it started going away. I still feel so bad!!!! I should have known better, I couldn't even use regular laundry detergent until I was like 16 or 17 without it doing the same thing to me.

I finally uploaded my pictures. They are in my labor thread.

Hello, everyone! Hope everyone's thanksgiving was great; I know we have a lot to be thankful for. My computer, however, is not one of those things. It died right after my last post, and I spent the weekend buying a new one (a one month old nursing baby in best buy on black friday---not ideal). Anyways, my family had to cancel their trip to see us, so it was just Ely, DH, and I for thanksgiving. We didnt even eat supper, so we are sort of lame, but we did have a little photo shoot to try and get some pic's for our Christmas card/birth announcement. I think we are going to use this one

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n.../DSC000891.jpg
We also took some of him sleeping, but they didn't turn out quite as cute as I'd hoped. I just can't decide!

Jo--Did Dominic get baby acne? Ely's face has broken out in the last day, and I am wondering when I will get my beautiful baby back! My sister and her family are coming this weekend to meet him; I hope it clears up!

Krissy- your X-mas card photo is ADORABLE! I love it! I'm still deciding what we will do for ours. I have some ideas, but haven't tried anything yet. As for acne, not so much, but he did peel HORRIBLY! He also has cradle cap that is just now starting to subside.

Amber- I am sensitive to scented lotions and detergent, too. We use the pampers sensitive and also use Dove unscented soap for his baths. He doesn't have that "baby smell" but at least he's clean and happy. About a month ago I accidentally used the wrong soap, Lever 2000, and he bawled the whole time. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I had him out of the bath and diapered. I reran the bath and used the Dove to help alleviate the itchiness he must have been feeling. Poor baby.

Jo-Dominic and I use the same soap. lol. Luckily the baby wash and lotions don't bother him. He just seems to have issues with the wipes.

I have sensitive skin, also. We have been using the Burts Bees Baby Bee soap and lotion; it is unscented and seems to be working well. The only place he is broken out is his face, and we don't even use it there!

Jo--What did the cradle cap look like? Ely's head is sort of red, but I think his scalp is just broken out, also. Ugh. I want my beautiful boy back!

Amber- I am sensitive to the detergents. I have used Dreft for years now.

Krissy- It is gross, actually. It is like scales that will peel off. My pedi told me to use Head and Shoulders, but I found a specific cradle cap shampoo as well. The cradle cap shampoo stinks, so I've been using the H&S. It smells sweet like candy. Both have done a good job. The pedi says that it will go away in time. It doesn't seem to bother Dominic though. It's not itchy, I don't think.

I had my annual pap appt. today. I am down to 110. Yay!! I LOVE breastfeeding!!

Jo--Wow, 110! You are awesome; I am so jealous. I still look a few months preggo. I gained almost 60 lbs, though, so I guess it will take some time to get it off. I guess that's what happens when you have a 10 lb baby!

I had a doctors appt last week and he ended up doing a pelvic exam (I was not prepared--I thought they waited until 6 weeks). It was horrible; I guess I really was just not ready to deal with that area of my body yet! He told me some stuff that was particularly interesting, though. I did not realize that you are recommended to wait at least 2 yrs before concieving again after a cesarean. He did say that I could try a VBAC next time (call me crazy, but I still want my natural birth--that is, if we decide we want more kids. Right now I am totally happy with one). He said that I probably just grow big babies, though, and so they may want to induce me a little early to avoid a "too big" baby. I don't even want to think about it now! My tailbone is cracked and still hurting so bad from this one! Oh, and he gave me a prescription for the mini-pill. Anyone know anything about this? He insisted that I wouldnt get preggo while bf, but I have known a few people who did, so I asked if there was some back up birth control I could use, and he recommended the mini pill. I was pretty excited; I didnt know you could use any pill while bf!

FWI--Those of you who are looking to do birth announcements or Christmas cards (I made a combination card that covers both occassions), if you haven't used Shutterfly and you join now to make your card, you get 25 of the prints for free. It saved me a bunch of money, so I thought you all might be interested as well. In order to get the savings, you have to have them shipped to you (you can't pick them up at Target), so you probably would want to order soon to guarantee time to address them for the holidays. I have been looking at a lot of sites and this deal was the cheapest, and I got to do a photo card with three photos, it is so cute!

Hey, has anyone heard from Heidi recently? She must have had the baby by now, right? I hope everything is alright...

Krissy - The mini pill is a progesterone only pill. That's why they say it's 'safe' to take while bf (no estrogen to trigger early development of stuff), however the synthetic progesterone still passes through your bm to the baby. Of course they say it's safe, but I think by now you know that I don't trust much of what 'they' say. lol

Jo - I just noticed the pumpkin pic in your sig. How in the world did you get him to sleep during that?!?! It is super cute but Ava wouldn't be having that! She wouldn't even lay on a blanket and sleep for a picture!

At the time of the photo, Dominic was only 5 weeks old so he was still sleeping a lot! I couldn't believe he didn't just slide right off but he actually placed his hands under his head and was pretty comfortable. We got one more really good one:

Ah!!!! What a doll!

Grahams cord fell off last night(finally, thing was driving us both nuts!) do you think he's good for a bath tonight or should I give it another day or so to be sure its good and healed? The doctor said to just do sponge baths until it came off...

Thanks Amber.

As for the bath I'd say go for it! Does it look like a real belly button now or is there still some "stuff" in it? Dominic still had a little left and the doctor told us to wait until it was all gone and then we could dunk him.
BTW, he HATES the bath. Cries like it's acid or something. I thought it was just his soap but the last two times we've bathed him he's cried. Maybe it's something else?? The water temp is fine so it's not that...hmmm....

Looks like its still kinda got "stuff". Guess well give him a few days. Maybe he just doesn't like it? He's probably trying to figure out why after all those months in a water balloon you're trying to put him back.

Here is the link that I just posted on the preggo side...not sure if anyone is interested but I would say just give them a peek!

Good morning everyone!

Just thought I would post a couple of links...

I was looking for colored envelopes and it looks like I found them at a good price. My baby shower invites will be 4x6 in size so I have to have the PERFECT envelopes (just like my grad announcements). Here is a link to a site where they have all kinds of envelopes in all different colors and sizes. They even have live chat if you have further questions. The prices are very reasonable and they have more sizes and colors than what you would find at your local Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc...they have all kinds of things (envelopes, labels, paper, etc). I have been looking online for all my baby shower stuff already.

Envelopes, Specialty Paper, Card Stock & Stationery Supplies | The Paper Mill Store

Also, here is another site that I happened to use for graduation stuff. I got the white embossed gift boxes for my graduation thank yous. The size was 4x4x4 I believe so it was faily sizeable. Inside the box was a picture frame with a small graduation picture, a personalized mint tin with mints and a thank you card. We then got silver ribbon and made it look like a present and added some thank you tags on the box. I wish I had a picture to share with you but that was a while ago so I dont. This website has all type of gift boxes, gift bags, tissue paper, etc...you might find it to come in handy if you are looking to give out thank yous...doesnt just have to be a baby shower...it could be a birthday party, etc. They are based here so I was able to actually go down and pick them up so I dont know the price of shipping but for the prices of their items you pay, I think its worth it. I just spent about an hour online browsing at everything...Im getting so excited!

Paper Mart - Best for Less

Happy Browsing...if you are interested of course...

On the belly button thing...I was never told to not give her a bath! Good thing we are waaay past that now or I would have worried about that too! From day one I put her in the bathtub and scrubbed her up! I'm thinking he would be just fine as we had no troubles...didn't even know there was a chance that we shouldn't submerge it?? What is the reasoning? Infection?
