Stephanie - I must have been doing something wrong cause now I can change my ticker...woo hoo!!!
I dont like iceberg lettuce...I always get the spinach one or a spring mix or something like that. I have to get this going because when I DO go to the bathroom, its sharp and it hurts, and sometimes bleeds...I do apologize if that is TMI. My dr also told me to take in more fiber and to eat prunes or drink prune juice so I went to the store and got a few things on my way home. Man how life has changed. LoL On a side note, I saw the Dairy Queen commercial with the Girl Scout Cookie Blizzard or whatever it was... |

Dude...no such thing as TMI on this website. LOL! That sucks. I was having that problem a few years ago sometimes. Happy side effect of starting with the green veggies two years ago -- cured that issue totally.
I'm excited about finishing vegetarian week! =-) Another pleasant side effect of my new every other week vegetarian thing, I'm staying excited about food. That is one of my trouble, getting tired of food in general, and that's when the eating habits took a dive into fast food and junk. But now it's something new every week. I'm going to make Huevos Tortillas for breakfast (tear up a tortilla, I'm using whole wheat, fry until crispy in a tablespoon or two of oil, pour in 2 beaten eggs, toss and cook through until egg is done, YUM!), I'll have some fruit too, brown rice sushi for lunch (plus fruit or veggies), and a Kashi mushroom and spinach thin crust pizza (plus veggies) for dinner. Yummo. Worked out abs tonight. I LOVELOVELOVE this YBB Goddess Abs workout. It's only about twenty minutes, and it is a GREAT abs workout, top to bottom, side to side, so even if I don't feel like working out, I can hit this one. Didn't go to the beach today; I decided my glutes and calves needed a break after swimming Thursday and running last night. I'll go tomorrow, and I really want to go horseback riding. I am looking forward to having the issue cured...its just a matter of staying consistent.
So now that I got the ok from the dr to exercise, do you have any suggestions? I want to lose the baby belly and my thighs and legs are still a little bigger than what they were... I want to start working out starting Monday and stay on a schedule... Looking forward to ANY suggestions. |

Kanieka - Fiber and lots of it. Try to do the switch from white rice to brown. LOADED with fiber. Also, incorporate yogurt into your day to get the good bacteria going. You may also look into a probiotic supplement for digestive health. I posted a thread here about a month ago on fiber. Check it out when you have a minute.

Stephanie - I didnt work out before...
I wish I would have just to stay in shape but I was happy with my weight so I never did anything...NOW I regret it...because its kind of like starting from scratch. A few years ago, I danced...aside from that, I have done the treadmill and stairs a few times, but nothing ever consistent. They do have sand dunes (100 ft high) here but I am not sure that is smart to start with seeing that I just had a c-section less than 8 weeks ago. Ive done the sand dunes before but only a few times. Yeah, you probably don't want to jump right in to something where you could be straining your abs so much.
Do you have a stroller? Can you start with walking around your neighborhood? Put on funky music and dance in you living room (might really entertain the baby too Hard to say what would work for someone else. Find something that gets you excited, and try it at different times of the day to see what works best. I was having a REALLY hard time working out until a week ago when I started doing it right after work, before I get tired and lazy in the evening. Works great for me. Scale is down four pounds this week...I'm about to break 200 again (thank GOD!!!). Only about fifteen to go to re-loose what I put on last fall and be back to where I was at the beginning of last September. *sigh* A year ago. It will have taken me a year to get back to where I was before I hit the ground last year. Although, I'm WAAAAY healthier than I was then. I have more muscle now, so the numbers on the scale aren't quite the same. |

Well I was only down like 1 lb this week. I was a little naughty...
Does anyone have a fun workout DVD that they would burn for me or something?...I really need something new to do to keep on track. I am getting really bored with the same ole same ole.

Stephanie - Indeed I dont want to strain anything...I dont want to mess up anything from the surgery either...
Indeed I have a stroller. Its a Graco Snap and Go so it is really compact and light that we just put the carseat in. I could walk around the neighborhood indeed. I would need to take a friend or an iPod though...lol DH would probably laugh if he saw me dancing in the living room...HA HA HA I may look into those DVDs on the days I am not able to make it to the gym. I will also see what classes they offer at 24 Hour Fitness...and since they are free, why note?!? I like that you do several different things so its not something that is repetitive...I think that would be boring... I also need to get a scale myself so I can keep track of my weight... How often do you think I should weigh myself? Every week after I start working out? I havent quite figured that part out yet... |

Hey ladies - I've been doing pretty well on my diet. I did treat myself to a whopper yesterday, and man was it good!
I love Jazzercise, and I love to dance in the living room, DH thinks I'm crazy but it works for me. Also on commerical breaks I do house work, squats, and situps. Walking with the dog is fun, but she normally want to sniff and I want to walk. Steph - I'm thinking I might try the veggie week here soon. I love that you are excited about the diet, and I'm right where you said you don't want to be, tired of the same ole same ole which ends us up at Fast food lane down the street. I haven't been to my parents for Jazzercise since our vacay, not sure how I'll do tonight.

Kanieka, once a week max for weighing in. Your weight can fluctuate too much to constantly check it. It helps for it to be part of your ritual. I used to try on smaller clothes every few weeks and that sort of thing. Help with the motivation. Weigh in under the same conditions, same time of day. I weigh in on Sundays in the morning after the 'morning functions', before breakfast. Doesn't really matter, so long as it is done the same way every week. I used to weigh in at about 6 in the evening two years ago. Whatever works.
A couple of months ago I noticed something else about doing different workouts, and not the same thing too much: I only had two DVDs in the YBB series, and the basic workout is really a good one. There is a ballet section, a cardio/hand weights section, a yoga section, and an abs section. I was doing it three times a week, alternating with the heavy cardio workout, and got pretty good at it, was feeling stronger. Then for some reason I skipped the third basic workout one week, and the next time I did it, I had a MUCH more effective workout. Slightly sore the next day -- I was working those same muscle groups too hard, and therefore was having a LESS effective workout. So I learned to 'mix it up', and that you actually get MORE results that way. Mary ~ I had my Sunday treat yesterday...a small Tagalong blizzard from Dairy Queen. It was kina yummy, but in the end, not worth the calories. I'm gonna make my treats count BIG TIME, and get things like chocolate cake from the italian bakery. My friend Gail is finishing her own veggie week. I've started a MOVEMENT! LOL! I love it. It's a manageable goal, much easier to keep my 'eye on the prize'. One thing I have to remember is that I don't HAVE to eat meat when I'm not on raw-veg week. I don't want to get into the habit of 'stocking up' on heavier meals just because I know I won't be able to have them the following week. One of the things Gillian says (creator of YBB) is that "so much of changing your body is changing your mind". So I'm continually breaking down the myths and pre-programmed beliefs we have so much of in our society about food and working out and that sort. One of my big ones a few years ago is that I would allow myself to eat lunch two hours after breakfast if I felt hungry, instead of snacking and trying to wait four or five hours between meals. If I let myself eat lunch and breakfast closer together, I'd typically be fine to wait six or seven hours until dinner. So break rules and find what works for you! |

Time for me to officially join this thread again. Had my appt. last week so I am all cleared to workout and diet. Of course since I'm nursing, I can't do anything too drastic weight-loss wise. I am doing WW (on my own) and working out to DVDs at home, and will hopefully be walking/biking once the weather cooperates. My short term goal is to lose the last 5lbs on baby weight and long term another 15lbs.
I started Friday and worked out Sunday and yesterday to an old pilates DVD that used to be really easy for me, but now I can barely make it through the abs section. I also ordered Jillian Michaels 30day shred so I'll let you know how that one is. And as of today I have already lost 4lbs, yay! Steph-I read somewhere that it takes 3,000 calories to burn one pound of fat, but those same calories to lose 6lbs of muscle so its good that you are not losing too fast |

Kanieka ~ I got a digital scale from Walmart. Okay, young lady, your homework for the next week is to DRINK MORE WATER! I don't even care what else you eat.
Bina ~ Yay! Sure, I'll tell you about my DVDs when you get bored. And explain it to me again, about the calories and the fat and the muscle...? I got confused. Mary ~ I needed to give my poor legs a break today...after swimming Thursday, running Friday, and riding on Sunday, they're a little worn out. And the horse I was riding was WAY more comfortable when I was up high in the saddle, so the tendons (or whatever) in my groin are pretty sore from squeezing to sit up so tall. So I half-way did my new YBB sculpt workout tonight - the whole thing is with hand weights. I took it easy on the plies and lunges, but I did all the arms...twenty minutes worth. I can feel the muscles all tired and slightly jello-y. Had shrimp and blue crab salad from my organic store, with sesame crackers and a big spring mix salad. When I say 'big salad', I mean five ounces, the entire tub of pre-washed type stuff? I mean BIG salad. And I put a little dressing and crumble some sesame wheat crackers and fresh ground pepper. Then for dessert I had a beautiful whole wheat blueberry muffin from the whole foods bakery. I was craving blueberry muffins today, started trying to find a recipe with whle wheat flour, and stumbles across some at the bakery when I was at the store. Perfect. And YUM! Ingredients: ww flour, milk, better then milk soymilk powder, eggs, blueberries, applesauce, canola oil, baking powder, baking soda, salt. With organic butter. SUPER yum. |

Steph-I think it means that basically you can lose 6lbs of muscle OR 1lb of fat for the same number of calories burned, so we shouldn't feel bad if we are dropping weight slowly if we know we are building muscle because hopefully we are losing mainly fat and not muscle. Now I think I just confused myself, lol. I am more of a how-do-clothes-fit kinda person anyway than scale.
Mary-I forgot to say that I think it is great to use commercials to get workouts in. I guess that is one of the downsides to DVR, lol. I am bad because I weigh every morning, can't help myself. But I am one pound away from being back in the 160s! |
