Karyn - I only buy Purdue chicken because of the no hormones/antibiotics. I could get free range chickens around here, though. I just haven't looked into it. I would never again buy one of those frozen, prepackaged chicken breasts, though. I only buy 'cage free' eggs, also unless dh gets some from a friend who has chickens. They're dirty critters - I remember having to clean the chicken coop for my dad once. I got paid $3. When I was done, I told my mom that I should have gotten at least $5. LOLWe used to plant potatoes, too. They always turned out pretty good from what I remember. I was going to plant some in my own garden last year, but my yard is so small and you need some space for those (kinda like zucchini and vine plants). Give it a shot - what do you have to lose but a couple potatoes??

Sarah - Since you are having a hard time finding organic meat farmers in your area, you might want to try calling a local meat locker near you. When you purchase beef from a farm, you have to give the locker your cutting order. Maybe give them a call & tell them what your interested in & see what farms they work with. Just an idea!

My tip for eating organic on a tight budget is to grow your own! I don't think homegrown vegetables are completely organic, because we don't know the origins of the seeds/seedlings but at least I know that there are no pesticides on them.
