Default Telling the Fam

Well, we had dinner with MIL and SIL last night. We gave the picture frame to Grandma... of course, DH couldn't let her read it without screaming 'Grandma' across the table!! They're all really excited. My SIL is already planning a baby shower. Her daughter, Caitlin, is going to be 13 in November. She has been the ONLY grandchild. She is exicted to have a cousin, but wants us to have a boy (I think so she can still be the only grand daughter). I think there's a little fear or jealousy there. Once I get bigger and the baby starts moving around, I think she'll be more excited about everything. She's never experienced anything like that before.

How wonderful, Rac! A part of me is a little anxious about telling my family. Our daughter is the only grandchild on either side--she's the one I worry about telling most. But also, my sister has tried to conceive and after she couldn't she gave up and focused on her career. Anyway, I'm sure our parents will flip. I think the picture frame idea is cute! But I just got my BFP, so I'm going to wait a little while before I tell anyone! I just don't want something to go wrong and then have to face everyone.

Hi Carol!! How old is your daughter? I'm sure she'll be thrilled to have a baby brother or sister.

Since this is our first, DH couldn't wait to tell, so we stuck with family and close personal friends. Gratton was the one who told us about the picture frame idea. It worked really well.

Rac, did you say that you put a poem in the picture frame? I remember reading something like that ages ago, but I didn't think to copy the poem down way back then.

Our daughter is 8. I think she'll be happy, but I want to do all that I can to make her feel like her life will change for the better, but it's hard to do. I jsut want her to feel like this baby will be, in some way, hers too--something for her to love and cherish, too.

Have you told anyone at work/church/etc., or do you think you'll wait awhile? I just don't know when would be a good time to tell anyone. I'm a little anxious. My husband keeps asking me if I think I could miscarriage. He's so afraid to get his hopes up, especially with the whole low progesterone problem (there's nothing I can do until I can get into the doctor and test).

Hi Carol! The only people who know right now are our immediate families, close personal friends, my boss and his boss and foreman. That's it. I told him not to tell anyone else yet. It's too soon.

rac -
I'm planning to tell my mom on her birthday (a month away from today!). Anyway, what was it that you put in the picture frame, was it a poem? I was hoping to have an u/s pic by that point to stick in a frame to give her as her bday gift. If I don't get one by that point I'll have to think of something else.

Rac- Cute Idea! A friend of ours who is 9weeks gave her mom/dad and inlaws a little picture book (from target) On the first page it was a pic of them and on the second page it said their due date with stickers of babies etc.

She told all of us as we walked into their house for a party. I almost fell over. She didn't tell ANYONE until the Dr visit. I just do not know that I could keep it in that long!

I couldn't wait. I only waited 8 days to tell my mom and a week and a half to tell MIL. I told my DD after a few days (once I got the quant results back). We did the poem in a frame, too.
Rac, yours was such a cute idea!! The poem I used, I found on the Internet:

I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands,
Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come June,
That’s when they say I'm due.
I'm your new grandson or grandaughter;
I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we'll know.
So what I have to give you now,
Is a wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this wonderful family.

The funny thing is, after my mom read it, she turned to my DD and smiled and said, that's so nice, ty for writing it for me. My DD then whispered "I don't think she gets it". Ha ha. It was even printed on paper with little footprints and handprints. She got it after some prodding.

Faith, I can't believe you can wait so long! Will your Mom be upset you waited?

That poem is cute....I bet my mom wouldn't get it either at first!!!

She'll probably be shocked that I waited so long, but not disappointed. We're moving in two weeks which is an emotional deal for her since we're moving "far away from her" (1/2 hour away!). Her B-day is only like 2 weeks after the whole move gets settled so I figured it'd be a nice way to tell her and the rest of the family will be there too, so we can tell them all at once.

The first time around we said we were going to wait 12 weeks before we told anyone, but I couldn't help it and ran to my mothers house a week after I found out and just blurted it out! I wanted to have a nicer way to break it this time around! haha. Plus DH and I are kind of having fun with the fact that we have a secret right now!

I know what you mean. That was a dilemma for me, too. I wanted it to be just our secret for a while. But my family is so sensitive. If you sneeze the wrong direction, they feel slighted...

Good luck with your move. I think that is so funny that your mom thinks 1/2 hour away is far. i've never lived closer that 21/2 hours from either of our parents. It's not so bad, really. No unannounced "just thought I'd stop by" visits.

So Im not pg yet but I have decieded how I am going to tell my Mom that I am pg. She hates the term knocked up (she thinks it sounds trashy) so to give her a hard time my sister and I and my husband use it as much as we can possibly fit it into a conversation with her. So I found on a website a maternity tank that says "knocked up" with a pg stick figure, I ordered it and am going to wear it and see how long it takes her to notice.

I know I would not be able to hold it in. As soon as I could I'd be telling everyone.
