Default Sept Preggo Chat

I just realized it is September! One month closer...

Rebecca~ We used CBR. I did some research, and spoke to my obgyn, and she recommended them. It is expensive, but in the long run, I didnt think it was too bad, for the opportunities that may come from it in the future. For both babies the initial fee is around $3000. Our yearly storage fee is $250. I think it is worth it.

Rebecca--we also used CBR. I read EVERYTHING that they send you from all of the companies, and couldnt really find any substantial differences. So we decided to go with CBR because they have done the most successful transplants, and they are the biggest in the US (So we figured they would have the least chance of going completely broke. Ely was born right around the time the economy went to pot.)

We tried to use CBR, but I submitted the paperwork too late. I think we will do it with this baby - I will just have to get my act together earlier.

Krissy ~ Do you think switching PNV would help even if I take them at night? What kind did you switch too?

Melissa--I always took my pnv with dinner at night, but I still had to switch two or three times before I found one that worked. I ended up taking the Rainbow Lite 1 brand (I think that is what they are called? I will look when I get home) They have them at Walmart, Walgreens, and many grocery stores. Now, I will say this--I thought that helped a ton, but last week I took one in the morning and all day long I kept thinking, "man, I feel pregnant, what the f?" Well, I finally realized that it was the prenatal! It made me nauseous, so continue taking them at night with food, it does help! I also had terrible cramping for awhile and it turned out it was the prescription pnv I was on--it had some wierd type of iron in it that disagreed with me.

Krissy ~ Thanks! I'm taking like a Nature something brand...I've noticed that my nausea is occurring after I have been up for 2 hours...perhaps I need to eat more. Today I started feeling nauseous during a meeting and when it was over, I snacked on some dried fruit and almonds and I was fine.

Melissa - not eating gets to me too. and I try to take my pvn with a meal. I have been on citra natal (prescrip) the whole time. I tried some others & they made me feel yucky. it sucks that they are prescrip, but they are worth it to me.

I think you have to send in by 35 or 36 weeks (they have to receive it). I thought I could make it, but they declined my paperwork.

The CBR site says:

When should I enroll with CBR?
Half of all babies arrive before their due date, so its best to decide early. You have just one opportunity to bank your baby's cord blood, so we strongly recommend making the decision during your second trimester if possible. It's never too late in your pregnancy to enroll, however.
Cord Blood Registry - FAQs About Enrolling with CBR's Cord Blood Banking Services

you can enroll online, so thats probably the quickest. I mailed my paperwork in.

Hello ladies! I've got an interesting question for everyone... are you getting the Swine flu series? I was listening to the radio, and they said pregnant women should be first in line. I will likely get it, as there are flu cases close by, but I'm worried that it is still being tested. That scares me! Thoughts?

I had a sick client yesterday, and now my throat is scratchy. I really hope I am not getting sick, but I have a feeling I'm going to wake up feeling like poo.

Mare - I saw my OB yesterday and he told me to get a flu shot and swine flu - but then he said he needs to order some, so I guess it will depend if/when he gets them.

My pedi said the that the swine flu vaccine will be available in Oct. He didn't mention me getting it, but said he wanted to get more info before he recommends it for the babies - b/c it is so new.

Mel-I don't know if it was pschological or not but the motion sickness wristbands and ginger chews (from Central Market, but i am sure ginger capsules work too) seem to help a little. But to be honest even with those I still felt like crap. It felt like groundhog day because I would feel great when I woke up and the nausea would start at around 2pm and get worse as the day went on until I could crawl into bed and sleep it off. And driving and carrying Avery up and down the stairs, or any kind of motion made it worse.

Edit: just saw that you were feeling better after eating, so hopefully yours isn't a bad case

Bina ~ My next door teacher neighbor brought me preggo pops today, I'll try those first to see if they help. I'm not a big fan of ginger, except for ginger ale, so I drink alot of that. Yeah, my nausea starts 2 hours after waking for about half an hour to an hour then it resurfaces in the afternoon after school and continues until I crawl into bed. I'm a little concerned about going on a boat on Friday. I wonder if I should get those wristbands...

Mel-you could also try B6, which is also supposed to help and i think that is what is in those preggo pops. At least if you are on a boat, the seasickness and preggo-sickness will just be one and the same..ok not funny I know If it gets really bad, you could also try taking half a unisom (the regular tablets, not the gel tabs), but of course they make you a little sleepy. My OB told me this so I know its safe.

Speaking of B6, I was going to bring this up to my RE today at my appointment. But I read last night in pg journal that 1.9 mg of B6 is recommended daily. I take 100 mg B6 in addition to a PNV and a B complex. Do you think that's bad? It did say that B6 is water soluble like Vitamin C and I know that when you have too much Vitamin C it is just excreted in the urine.

Awhile ago my MIL sent me an email about the swine flu vaccine containing mercury. (Sorry if this is repeat info!) I found this website about it:

WaPo: Swine Flu Vaccine Will Contain Mercury : Eco Child’s Play

I am still unsure whether or not to have our infant vaccinated...Matthew too. I want to talk to my doc about it, I am already doing a modified vaccination schedule with Matthew and refuse to allow him to receive any vaccination that contains mercury (aka: thimerisol). Not an easy decision to make!

On another note, I had my 34 wk check-up and u/s today and a c-section was confirmed due to my placenta being too close to my cervix. Our little girl will be born on Monday 10/12 in the AM. I was hoping for the 5th but it was already full. Currently she weighs 5.3# and has quite a bit of hair! Everything else looks good so now we just wait!

Jen- thanks for the info. regarding the cord blood. I called CBR yesterday and you can enroll over the phone and they don't charge you until they receive your sample. We are going to do it. They have a generous discount for the military which is definitely worth asking about!! You also can get your first year of banking FREE if you refer someone who also banks with them!! Saves $125!!

I don't want to start a vaccine discussion, but I heard something on NPR the other day that there is actually a little bit of Mercury in ALL flu vaccines.? Will you get the regular vaccine for you kids, or none at all? I am just curious. I am really scared of H1N1 because I work in a college, and things spread so fast. I havent decided what I will do about the vaccine yet. Im certainly not rushing to get it, but when you hear the figures on how many people are estimated to die from this flu, and knowing that those people will be mostly elderly and babies, it definitely scares me enough to consider it. I just don't know; your right, Rebecca, it is a HARD decision!

Hi goils! I had my final u/s today with the RE and I have graduated and will be calling tomorrow to find an Ob/Gyn (as the last one I used was closer to my last house and not the new one).
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d.../7wks3days.jpg
This is the latest picture of Ron. Cap'n thinks he sees a penis. I told him that was the arm paddle. Please tell me I'm right! Head is on the right and the arm is sticking up??? I don't want to be like Rachel on that one episode of Friends where she couldn't make anything out on the u/s! I got to listen to the h/b again and it was 176. I'm definitely breathing alot easier after today! The RE prescribed to me Ondansetron for the m/s - they are these dissolvable pills. I was halfway to the freeway before I remembered the pills and had to turn around to go back to the pharmacy! Then when I was at the pharmacy I was asking about plastic sharps disposable jar and the pharmacist gave me a pamphlet which I left at the counter and she came running after me to give it to me! Boy am I loopy.
