Jo- I don't know much about post partum depression, but from what I know about depression (long story, but I know alot-) and depression can certainly manifest as anxiety. While it may be "normal" if it is bothering you, or keeping you awake, I think you are right to talk to the doc. I understand not wanting to take anything, but I wouldn't worry about that just yet-see what the doc says.

Stacy- I so JEALOUS! I wish I had lost 7lbs. As of this AM I've gained 1lb. But it seems like none of my clothes fit-or at least fit right.

Back- That's awsome!

Jo--My sister has been suffering from SEVERE ppd the last 6 months, so I have been reading a LOT on the subject, and since I have a history of depression, I also have a little personal insight. Anxiety is absolutely a form of depression, and ppd can disguise itself as extreme anxiety. Are you having anxiety attacks, also? Do you know when it started to feel like "too much"? If it lasts more than two weeks, you NEED to talk to your doctor. If it is less than that, though, it may just be your hormones balancing out (I would still mention it to your doc). the 6 week point is a very common time for ppd to start to show, but don't worry, there is a lot they can do and mild ppd is very common. It rarely gets to be severe. There are many medications that can just take the edge off (and you can still breastfeed), and just knowing can be half the battle, too. If you are afraid of the medications because you think they will "change" you (I know that is what a lot of people think), I can assure you that as long as they give you the right medication and the right dosage, it should just level you out so that you feel NORMAL, not different. In most cases I am against medicating, but when it comes to anxiety and depression, I do believe that there are medications that, when taking properly and short term, can be SO beneficial! Good luck and keep us posted.

Claire--I never lost weight, either, and i had terrible m/s. I gained one pound a week through the entire 1st and 2nd trimester, and I think I have gained even more than that in the 3rd (I quit looking at the scale). I think that I have gained between 45 and 50 lbs, but don't know for sure. Uck; your body will just do what it will do!

I use to sleep with my hand on Hannah's stomache while she sleep in her basinet. I guess I thought if I felt her quit breating it would awaken me. I have a bigger fear of SIDS now. I am a EMT-B and last year at Thanksgiving I went to a 4month old who was not breathing. We pronounced her dead at the scene. She was sleeping in the bed with her mother and father. I still can't get over that. Of all the things I have seen that is the one thing that still bothers me.

And as far as ppd goes, I didn't have it. But while I was pregnant I cried alll the time cause I thought George was going to leave me and that he didn't love me anymore cause I was getting so fat. And I thought cause he didn't want to bd all the time was proof that our marriage was falling apart. When in reality he was just scared of hurting the baby.

Back- Congrats on a great appointment and seeing that heartbeat!

Kanieka- I hope yours goes as well as Back's did! Update us!

I was totally crazy when Jeslynn was a newborn. I would wake up randomly in the night to check on her. Watch her or feel her breathing, etc. I still do it if I wake up to pee or anything in the night. I always make sure she's breathing and cover her up, she always kicks off her covers! And she will be 2 next month, so as long as it's not keeping you from doing everyday tasks, it's probably just mommy anxiety.

I lost 13 lbs the first trimester with Jeslynn, and this time I only lost one between my appointment in June before I got pg until last week. I had super nausea with Jes, but this time it hasn't been bad. In fact, I've been eating like a horse, so I expected to have gained quite a bit. But the baby was measuring a week ahead, so maybe he/she is stealing all my nutrients! lol

Shannon, you have been through so much. I wish I was half as "together" as you are and I haven't had to deal with any of the stresses you manage every day! Wow!

Oh, the heartburn.. I think it started at about 34-35 weeks with Jeslynn, and lasted until the day she was born. It didn't matter if I had eaten or not, it was constant. I ate tums like they were candy. I can't stand to think of chewing up one of those chalk tablets now. I hope yours ends once the head engages and gives you more room!

Haley- I'm glad the dr didn't seem concerned. Just take it easy and drink tons of water. That is what they seem to say to fix most pg problems. In fact, drinking more water will help with those aching hunger pain bellies some of you girls are getting. The body's need for water is very often mistaken as hunger pains. Water runs everything in our bodies, we need lots and lots!

Okay, so don't tell me to drink water to fix this problem, I'm already downing two of my nalgene bottles full every day, so that's 64 oz. Yes, I pee a lot. lol But I keep getting these stinking nose bleeds. I had one one day last week, didn't have one the next day, the day after had three in one day, no more for several days, and then today all I did was look down into my lap and my nose just started dripping blood! Is it just from extra blood from being pg, should I worry about it? I have a call into my OB nurse, but I keep thinking I'm over reacting. Anyone else get nosebleeds while pg?

Sara - Nosebleeds during pregnancy | BabyCenter

Is it common to get nosebleeds during pregnancy?

Yes, nosebleeds do tend to occur more often during pregnancy. Pregnancy can cause the blood vessels in your nose to expand, and your increased blood supply puts more pressure on those delicate vessels, causing them to rupture more easily. Although it's unpleasant and inconvenient, an occasional minor nosebleed is generally harmless.

You're especially likely to get a nosebleed when you have a cold, sinus infection, or allergies, or when the membranes inside your nose dry out, as they do in cold weather, air-conditioned rooms, airline cabins, and other dry environments. Trauma and certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure or a clotting disorder, may cause nosebleeds as well.
How can I stop a nosebleed?

When your nose starts to bleed, sit down, keep your head higher than your heart, and put pressure on the bleeding nostril for five to ten minutes. (Use a watch — it's longer than you think.)

Using your thumb and the side of your bent index finger, firmly pinch the whole soft lower part of your nose and exert pressure toward your face. Don't let up for a second — even if you're getting very curious to see if the bleeding has stopped — because that could interfere with the coagulation process.

Applying ice can help, too, because it constricts blood vessels. Hold a cold pack or a bag of frozen peas over your nose and cheeks with the hand that's not pinching your nostrils closed. Don't lie down or tilt your head back: You might end up swallowing blood, which could cause nausea or even vomiting.

If the bleeding hasn't stopped after ten minutes of pressure and ice, continue for another ten minutes as long as you're not bleeding heavily. Consult your healthcare practitioner if the bleeding doesn't stop after 20 minutes of pressure.

You'll need a medical evaluation if you get a nosebleed following a head injury, even if you only have minor bleeding. Let your practitioner know if you have frequent nosebleeds so she can rule out underlying problems.
Can I do anything to avoid getting a nosebleed?

• Drink extra fluids to help keep all of your mucous membranes well hydrated.

• Blow your nose gently. Aggressive blowing can lead to nosebleeds.

• Try to keep your mouth open when you sneeze.

• Avoid dry air, especially in wintertime or in dry climates, by running a humidifier inside your house and not overheating your bedroom. Also stay away from irritants like smoke, which you should be avoiding anyway.

• Use a lubricant to prevent nasal dryness. Some experts recommend petroleum jelly. Others suggest a special water-based nasal lubricant that is available over the counter at pharmacies. Saline nasal sprays or drops can help, too.

• Don't overuse medicated nasal sprays or decongestants. They can dry out and further irritate your nose.

When I was pregnant with Cj, I had a horrible aversion to the smell of eggs cooking....I could eat scrambled eggs after they were cooked, but I couldn't be in the same house while they were being cooked.

With her, with the second pg that I miscarrried at 12 w, I had NO morning sickness, but with this one, I had about 10 weeks of nausea - only thing that kept my from puking was eathing small amounts of carbs all day long, grazing, basically. With all three pregnancies, I have gained almost exactly a pound a week right from the start. Bad thing is I started this one 10 pounds heavier than I started the other two. They still haven't mentioned anything at the Dr. office about weight control measures/diet, though. I don't eat rediculous amounts of food, or unhealthy stuff - well, the occassional snack/treat, but I am not noshing on brownies and cookies and ice cream daily or anything....I wish.

With CJ I was put on bedrest for Pregnancy Induced Hypertension at 28 weeks, and she was born at 38w by c-section - I started my pregnancy with her at 152 lbs, ended at 194.5 so 42.5 total. By the time I went home from the hospital 3 days after delivery, I was already down to 172....so alot was probably water retention. I got pregnant again while still breastfeeding full time, when Cj was about 8 months old. With the second preg. I started at 150, and gained 12lbs in 12 weeks, up to 162, and then never lost it back off - probably due to being somewhat depressed and eating too much after losing the baby. I started this one at 162, and tomorrow I will be at 20 weeks....I weighed on the scale this morning, and it was 182 - so right on schedule for me, I guess. My body just likes to gain a po9und a week while I am pregnant - I will worry about losing it after.

So the moral of the story is don't worry too much about the weight, you body will do what it wants to do....and you can work on getting back to your favorite numbers later.

Congrats to the new mommies who got to see their beans and HBs - isn't it neat!?

We are leaving tomorrow for an 8 hour drive to Nashville, then 3 more hours the next day to Georgia for a friend's wedding which my DH is Best Man for this weekend. We will be back on Monday Evening.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Jess

Jen--Im so glad you got some pic's of Jackson! Can't wait to see them. I have no idea how to download that kind of file; if you can somehow get it onto photobucket first, then you could post that link?

Jo--Feeling any better? Did you talk to your doctor?

Well, I have an appt. today at 1:15. The doctor hinted last week that he might do an internal this week, depending on a few things, so I am hopeful that he will. On the one hand, I don't really want an internal, but on the other hand, I am DYING to know if anything is happening in there. I kind of doubt that it is. My mom didn't start to dilate with either of her kids until she actually went into labor, and then she dilated really fast. She went from 3 to 10 in an hour and a half! I hope it goes that way for me. Anyways, I will keep you all posted!

Ok girls, it's me worrying again! I have been doing some research on the internet (never a good thing!) and I am worried about having a blighted ovum and not knowing it. It was said that i had one the last two times I miscarried, so now I am worried that I will have one again. I haven't had any spotting, but am on progesterone so would I spot? I have read some cases where women have blighted ovums at 10-12 weeks!! I have a call in to the dr's to get an ultrasound scheduled, but can't stop worrying! D#$% internet!

Hello Ladies. Sorry I haven't been around lately. I read through everything that I missed, but I don't remember half of it.

My Dh goes back to work tomorrow. He has been off for 3 days. We took Ginni and Graci to the Georgia National Fair Tuesday and they absolutely loved it. We had so much fun!

Well I am 9wks today...Not much longer till I am out of the 1st Tri

I probably won't be around much this weekend either. My sisters are coming over tomorrow and then Monday is my Dh's b-day. I am going to make him a Coconut Cake...yummy

So, how are all you ladies feeling?

Congrats to all you new preggos!

Well, my appt. was downright depressing. First, I am not dilated AT ALL! How the h&*$ is that possible? Not at all? I assumed I was at least a one! But, nope. Nothin
