Stacey - Sorry for your loss...

Hi ladies! I havent been able to post this weekend...I was super busy...went to visit my grandma that lives about an hour and a half away then I had a baby shower to go to.

So I went to the doctor today (NOT my normal OB) to get the 1st trimester screening...my risk alone at age 27 isnt high but I gave some blood (a prick in the finger) and they did an u/s...so my "actual" results will be back in about 7-10 days (maybe later because of Thanksgiving)

DH didnt go to this appt. This was the first one that he did not go to. I told him it would take a few hours so he opted out so he could do all that he needed to do before he went in to work. DH actually missed out on hearing the heartbeat. I heard it for the first time...it was AMAZING! I got 3 u/s pics (to add to the 3 we already have) AND I got a DVD. I hope it has audio so DH can hear the heartbeat too. After I told him I heard the heartbeat, he got sad that he wasnt there...it was too cute.

So the doctor that did my u/s asked if I wanted to know what he thinks the gender is. Of course I said yes...he said he thinks that it is a girl. I told the nurse that I hope he is right because that is what I really want. She said he is good at what he does...so we will see. Of course a healthy baby is always good but I believe most women have their preference. Only time will tell. I have to go back for a comprehensive u/s with his office at 20 weeks.

Next Appointments:
Regualr OB Appt: December 5, 2008
20 Week U/S: January 21, 2009

Missy--Thanks for the tips. Did the prevacid or Zantac work? We start him on it tonight; fingers crossed!

Claire--How far along are you now? As for the swing; I am so pissed that we bought such a nice one. I would register for a middle of the road type swing, just in case the baby doesnt dig it. We got this great one for newborns, hoping to score some sleep and help him feel more comforted. He hates it, though, and since it is more of a newborn swing, I doubt he will ever grow into it. I think we might attempt to return it. I would get one that lasts a little longer, and if possible, get one with a mobile. Not many have a mobile, but right now the only thing that Ely likes are mobiles, and when I tell people that it sounds very common. Hope everything goes well at your appt.

Allison--You look beautiful!

Kanieka--Yay for little girls!! It seems like everyone has been having boys. Speaking of girls--anyone heard from Heidi?

Sorry that I have been sort of a punk when it comes to reading; we have been very busy at our house! Today I gave Ely a pacifier for the first time; he looked at me like I was God! Shouldve given it to him earlier, but I was hoping to avoid using one (and also avoid having to someday take it away!) I posted links to pictures in the baby thread.

Stacey-I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you guys have a safe trip!!!

Claire- I have this swing and Graham LOVES it. It was a hand-me-down but I would totally pay $93 for it in a heartbeat. It seems like it will grow with him nicely, its easy to assemble and clean, and he will sleep in it swinging or in the infant chair forever. Its also an easy transition from one to the other, you just lift it off the frame(it kinda fits in like a puzzle piece), baby and all if you need to. It takes 4 d-cell batteries but the rechargeables are a great idea. If I ever get the money I plan to go that direction.

Hi Ladies!!!!
I got my first u/s today!! We only saw a little sac, but it was still so exciting!! It made things so much more real, if that makes sense. The nurse said that she thinks we will be able to see a heartbeat next week and she scheduled another appt for next Tuesday.. I can't wait!! DH was so excited. Yesterday while I was at work he kept text msging me telling me how excited he was.... that put the biggest smile on my face Then today at the u/s he was looking at the screen and he had the biggest smile on his face and I heard him say really low "This is so exciting".... YAY!! Ok... here's a picture. It's really tiny still, but you can see it in the upper left of the opening...

Just realized I should probably include the link.

Wanna- I know you must be sooo excited! I didn't get to see mine until 12 weeks and it wasn't "real" to me until then so I definitely know what you mean. Congratulations!!!!!!

Vickie- Congrats on your u/s. LOL at DH, mine isnt' NEARLY that excited, good for you!

I too had an u/s today (I think because I'm too stinking fat for the dopler) OMG, my kid is such a SPAZ! The baby was kicking and jerking and moving all over-it was pretty funny.

Amber-Thanks! I was kinda eyeing that one when I saw it in some random free gift info from Motherhood Maternity .

Here's an article I found this AM- Melamine Found in US Baby Formula

I'm sure it's nothing to be alarmed about, but SHEESH! Seems like you can't trust anything these days, huh?

Claire - Unfortunately no one! I had read something similar last week. I think it is something to be alarmed about, too. It's the melamine that killed so many dogs during those dog food recalls. It's imported from China..... so much for our US economy, huh?

FDA Alert: Detention of Chinese Imports

Yep. Here's a piece from the article that I posted...

Close to two years after melamine tainted wheat, rice, and corn protein additives began to make thousands of pets sick across the US, the chemical continues to make news around the world; bad news.

Well, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
We told my DH's parents/family about the pregnancy today. It went better then I thought actually. His family is very conservative and reserved and they don't show alot of emotion about stuff usually, but they were really excited when we told them. We told his parents first, when we got to their house before we left to go out of town. When we were all together in one room DH said "well, I've got some good news for you..... you're going to be grandparents!". At first they looked shocked, but then they were all smiles and said that they were excited.... when we got to his Cousin's house it was kind of funny. His uncle had just made eggnog and sitting right next to the bowl was a big bottle of Jack Daniel's so it was obvious what kind of eggnog it was. His uncle kept talking about how good it was and how I needed to try some and don't be shy and all that and I just kept saying "oh no thank you, heh heh... I really shouldn't be drinking" and finally one of his cousins caught on and she was like "omg! Don't tell anyone, Thomas needs to make a big announcement!!". So before they said grace he announced it to everyone and they all cheered and clapped... I know DH feels like a weight has been lifted now that he doesn't have to keep it a secret anymore!
