Hey Preggers! After Registering last week I still feel that I have missed a few items!
How many Newborn diapers do I need? How many Stage 1? How many onesies? How many pairs of socks? If I am BF and pumping how many bottles do you suggest?? I am open and welcome to all and any info that moms can offer!! |

Kristy - I'm not a mom, but I am an aunt 8x over. From what my SILs have told me, don't buy too many diapers yet. Buy some, to cover you (and the baby
I have stacks of newborn diapers that my last two nephews out grew very quickly. |

Oh! And has anyone ever received a used Medela Breast Pump? ha ha Who else could I be asking?? HA HA HA
Anyway if you have ever used a used one what should I purchase to insure the cleanliness etc?? |

Kristy, I think that you should see how big Grace is before you buy any diaper and also what brand you like. My girls leaked out of Huggies every time they peed, but my best friend loved them. They will probably give you a pack of diapers at the hospital so you can see what you think then.
You cant have enough onsies, socks or the nightgowns (way easier for changing in the middle of the night) |

I love the Pampers Swaddlers!! they aren't terribly bulky, but help to contain leaks, and they just seem more comfy. Like Mom said, the hospital will give you a package of diapers in the correct size to last a few days (you're likely to go thru a lot at first as you and baby get into the swing of things)--just send DH out to buy more when you know what you need. What you've already bought should cover you for a while, unless your baby is too big for the newborn size, in which case, I hope you still have the receipt! You won't need but a couple bottles at first for emergency if you are BF (it's recommended you hold off on a bottle for a few weeks to prevent nipple confusion). My babies lived in nightgowns with the stretchy bottoms and pajamas w/ feet for the first couple weeks(we didn't go out for a long time w/ baby)--no socks or onesies needed, esp. as you tend to keep them swaddled at first. Keep in mind their socks don't really get "dirty" either. But that's just me...we had about 5 of each.

Thanks Carol! My main question was how many bottles you would need if you were breastfeeding and pumping. I wanted to register for enough but didn't want to go overboard!
Also, if you are breastfeeding would you need/use a bottle warmer for pumped milk? I know that you aren't supposed to microwave breastmilk because it kills the good stuff and heats unevenly. |

My friend who has had three says that since every baby is different get starter kits of a few different bottles and see which works best for you & your baby.
Her kids were all colicky so she uses Dr. Brown's bottles. She said Advent bottles are great for colick as well but they are too difficult to fiddle woth when you have a screaming baby waiting to be fed at 3am. She said if you don't put the top on "just so" it leaks. |

This is an old topic, but I am new so I thought I'd give my two cents for anyone who comes upon it.
If this is your first child, count on getting things like onesies and socks from friends and family (if you have a reliable support system in place). DON'T go overboard with the underclothes, as the baby will (unfortunately!) grow out of them quickly! I'd say four packages each of the first two sizes should be sufficient. Keep receipts and/or packaging to make exchanging possible. You should definitely have a pack of NB diapers on hand. I LOVE Pampers swaddlers brand. I agree...they seem comfiest! However, keep in mind...the hospital will probably give you a pack or two so, again, don't go overboard! Definitely get one or two absolutely adorable outfits. Go all out, but spend what you can afford. This will be great for the first time you take your new baby out, and will be needed for pictures after the first week. I stress not to spend more than you can afford because again, your child will not be in them very long! If you are breastfeeding, and you can afford a dual electric pump....SPEND THE MONEY! I cannot recommend this enough. It will make your life 100x easier. You can only pump so much by hand before it cramps up and falls off, and you'll be amazed at what your body can produce. If you cannot afford an electric pump, and you qualify for WIC, they have a program in place that will actually GIVE you a brand new electric Medela pump kit for free. You don't have to apply if you're already receiving services, just ask. I can't really give any advice on what to buy for bottles if you don't BF, but if you are BFing, buy at least 8- 4 ounce bottles to start. I would have a small bottle of infant gas relief on hand. Baby's tiny little systems are overwhelmed easily, even in the first weeks. Check with your doctor, though, before using. My favorite part.....buy a GOOD stroller. Research and invest if possible. I prefer to use a pram (Inglesina Classica) at first. This line is great because it gives you style, but also the option to upgrade to a stroller seat when it's time. This ensures that you not only get your money worth, but can also resell it at a high resale price when you are finished. It doesn't have to be an expensive stroller, but remember it's like a car for your baby. It's what everyone sees, and you'll regret it if you buy something cheap that you have to replace after a few months. Also, when doing your homework, make sure it's something that will easily fold up for trunk storage and something with wheels that give you a decent amount of maneuverability. I hope this helps. I can tell you that I really went nuts when shopping for my first child, and we ended up getting rid of onesies, socks, and outfits complete with tags since we never got a chance to use them! Kara |

Newborn diapers - we went through about 200 in the first 4 weeks, now we are just starting size 1. Onesies - hmm - at least 14 I'd say for the 0-3 size. Well, unless they put their foot in an open poopy diaper, their little socks don't really get very dirty, lol, sometimes CJ wears hers two days - but I would say 7-10 pairs of the littlest size. But they are so cute, it is hard not to get more....however, CJ is already growing out of the littlest size of sockies, the heel part hits her in the arch of her foot now, unless you stretch them when you put them on !! As for bottles, that is up to you - how many do you plan to use a day??....just get that many and then wash them after each use, or get double that many if you don't want to have to wash right after. FOr milk storage, get the disposable milk storage bags - lots easier than using the bottles for freezing. |

Okay, so this makes sense that you need all of that, but do you register for it all? I wasn't sure when I registered if I should register for the onesies and diapers because it seems like people end up buying that without you registering for it, but maybe I should? I noticed most of the items on my registry are at least $20, so maybe I should add some of the cheaper things?
