WOW what a question...we didn't have to buy the furniture since we already had it from DS and I have nothing so far except...bedding, chair, changing table cushion, mattress, rug and baskets with liners for under changing table along with two covers for it......Oh and a few(use that lightly) clothes oh and shoes. :P Let me get more stuff before I give my #

Geez, I don't even really want to say. But the furniture alone was a little over $1000 and I still need the matching glider and ottoman (hoping to get that as a gift though). And since I'm not having two showers until after Bladen gets here, we spent about $400 the other weekend buying things we thought we needed right away. I'm not even counting stuff here and there whenever I felt the need because it was too cute. Oh and my DH did the nursery with chair railing, paint, ceiling fan, wallpaper - geez this is one expensive kid - he better be worth it.....LOL!!
I'm not even gonna count maternity clothes - I have a huge walk-in closet and it takes up half!!! But I do try to buy most of it on sale or clearance - just bought shorts for my last few weeks for $4 at Target the other day, but I'll probably have 4 boxes of clothes to pack up til next time! The next kid should be cheaper since we will have the furniture and we did the nursery gender neutral - at least this is what I'm going to keep telling myself and DH if he mentions cost.... |

Nothing!!!
What I get from my sis: 2 carseats 1 swing 1 bouncy all the clothes for years (she has an 8 month old girl) bottles changing pad new bedding new sheets My mom: baby crib bassinet dresser mattress for crib bassinet sheets chandalier for room bed canopy my mil: a glider monitors stroller pac'n 'play and I haven't even had a shower yet!!! I feel very lucky!! I haven't bought any little thing myself because of superstition, I guess. I don't want to jinx it. I want to hold her first and not count my chickens before they hatch, like I did with my two losses. |

Melissa - that is so awesome!!!
At 31 weeks, I was told Bladen probably wouldn't survive and it was tough to go into his room since we had already set it up and bought everything - I remember thinking I should have waited. So I completely understand waiting. Although now we have better doctors and the outlook is so much better I go in there everyday!! It also sounds like you have an awesome family that will help you have everything set when you bring your little one home, whereas, I know my DH would be stuck with doing everything last minute had we not done everything early. |

Well i think i have spent an estimated 300-400 worth of jumpers, socks, layettes, baby shoes, hats, gloves, and about 3 real outfits. I expect to spend about 200 more in clothing finally in pink!!! And i don't even want to think about the crib, carseat, etc.... My sister's boyfriend gave me a jogging stroller but i can't use it until the baby sits up, so that's another expense.

wow-I don't even want to think about it!
I'm not counting all the pregnancy books and journals I've bought! The crib and glider/ottoman were gifts from both sets of parents. dresser/changing table combo-$600 bedding set from ebay-$100 diaper bag $18 shopping spree at Carter's outlet (they were having a HUGE sale!)-$75 medela breast pump-$200 (dh found a 20% coupon for bru) a baby outfit here and there-$30 total paint for the nursery-$40 maternity clothes-$100-200 I can still wear regular tops and summer dresses/skirts so haven't had to buy too much. I've also only bought things on sale/clearance from Target, Old navy and Penneys. Once I have my 2 showers I will know better about how much we have to spend on stuff. A friend gave me her baby bouncer, swing, bassinet, exersaucer and walker, which will save a few hundred dollars. Once the baby is here, I will be hitting garage sales for used clothing etc instead of buying everything new. For those who already have babies, once you have all the gear/stuff, what is the REAL cost of a baby-I know there are diapers, wipes, etc, but about how much each month do you spend? Melissa-I too am very superstitous which is why I waited 3 months to tell a lot of people and didn't buy anything until the 2nd trimester. But with all the preparation that is needed for a baby there is no way I can NOT buy stuff and prepare beforehand Shannon-although we are decorating the nursery in a girly theme, the furniture is maple so is gender neutral, so is the stroller/car seat and other big things we registered for so we will definitely be using them for baby #2! |

I am with you Bina..I will be glad to get the showers done so I know what I still need to buy.
I have my first shower this weekend! YAH and then our church is throwing us one here in TN on October 14th!! So after that I will have a better idea of what I still need. Question...For those of youthat registered at two places...Did you put any of the same stuff on the registries?? Judith- I know you are going to be such a DIFFERENT mom than yours is. I know I am so much different than mine. One of the greatest things you will ever hear from your DH is what a good mom you are to his children. That touches me so much and I hear it often. He told me lastnight that Riley was the best ten year anniversary present he could ever have asked for. These things from DH make up for our moms. Not that I have to deal with mean hurtful things from mine but lack of attention is HARD too. I hope than you can continue to tune her out. She is a SICK person. I also feel sorry for your dad. WHY does he wnt to be with a woman like her??? SO glad that Mason is good and Jess is right most babies get baby bumps on their face. That is so not anything YOU are doing. She is so ignorant. UGH! Keep up the good work mommy. |

Karen-I registered at Target and Babies R Us and put different things on each registry. I did register for receiving blankets and regular blankets at both stores, but different designs. I didn't want to have to deal with duplicates, because if the guests don't give a gift receipt you may not get the full price value of what they paid but the lowest price of the item in the last 30 days (this is Target's policy). I also know there are both stores close to where the guests live which helps.
