My doctor asked me what prenatals I am taking and I showed him the bottle. He suggested that I either get a new one with omega-3 or take a supplement in addition to my vitamin. We have cereal that has omega-3 in it. Kashi makes it. When do you think m/s will start? I am glad I don't have it yet, but am not ready to think it still won't come on.

Tina-Thanks! And I sure hope you're right!
Crystal-I hope your vitamin-induced sickness gets better! Jo-Hmmm, good tip, thanks. My m/s started at 5 weeks, as did the extreme fatigue. I hope you escape it altogether!

Dana~ You are soo lucky. You are only 5 days ahead of me, and are getting your u/s next week. My doctor's office won't even send me until I am at least 20 weeks.....GRRRR
Jo~ My morning sickness hit at about 6 weeks and I still have it occasionally. I hope you do escape it. That's great you found a crib. We are getting a new one because the one we have is very old and you can't lower the mattress. Dylan began climbing out of it about 6 months ago. I don't want that happening so soon with the next one. I have been very lucky that he knows how to climb out without hurting himself. We don't even put the side rail up anymore. Snowie~ My doctor's office told me to eat whatever I could while I was sick and to not worry so much about eating everything recommended by the food pyramid. They said that when I feel better, I can really concentrate on eating a well-balanced meal. I would say that if you can't eat veggies right now, don't force yourself. You'll have plenty of time to make up for it. Plus, taking your prenatals will make sure that you are at least getting some of the vitamins and minerals you need.

SNOWIE!!!!! I am soooo glad to see you & Jo over here...I've been dying to tell you congratulations, but I wasn't sure why you hadn't made it over to this side yet....so I saved it for now! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Dana ~ Yeah for your ultrasound....I'm like Val, and my dr. won't do it until 20 weeks! Jo ~ I really hope you escape the m/s altogether...I wouldn't wish it upon anyone... I am STILL waiting for mine to subside.... ![]() Well, I told yall that Brian & I were leaving our options open to the natural birth/midwife thing...so we had our first meeting with her today, and I am still just so weary. Everything seems so wonderful and great, and then I think about the things that could go wrong. It makes me too nervous...so nervous that I just may play it safe and deliver at the hospital. The lady was super sweet, and very nice, and she didn't pressure us at all. She gave us a lot of information books/websites and such for us to do our own research....so I dunno...I'm gonna read up on it, but ultimately I am going to do what is more comfortable for me. |

You know, I don't remember where I saw it, but apparently, there are some midwives that will go with you TO the hospital. How wonderful to have someone coaching you like that, yet still have the security of the medical staff if needed. I think for me, I might check into one, a midwife, I mean, (uh...someday), and wait as long as possible to go to the hospital. I just don't know if I'd be comfortable with a homebirth for a first birth. I don't want to spend a day and a half on my back, stuck in a bed, hooked up to IVs, etc.

At our hospital (it is an academic hospital, don't know if that makes a difference) they employ 2 midwives, and you can use them instead. I know our hospital is trying to go back to a more natural birthing approach where some still aren't. They do VBACs and have the tubs, showers, birthing balls, etc in the suites. So maybe you could call some different hospitals and see if they have their own midwives if that is what you are interested in.

My hospital is called Women and Babies Hospital. That's all they cater to. It's awesome. What's even cooler is that my doctor is right next door. They share the same parking lot. There are about 10-15 midwives in the practice too and you will have them delivering unless there are complications. I had one that I didn't like at my appointment and was bummed to find out that she was on call the night my water broke, but I have to say that I LOVE HER now. Seeing her for checkups was so much different than having her for delivery. Unfortunately, since Dylan had to be vacuum extracted after 3 LONG hours of pushing, I had to have a doctor deliver him. I never met him before but he was awesome too! Let me just tell you, Dylan was born right at shift change, so I had all the night nurses, the morning nurses, the doctor, Jana (midwife), mom, dad, sister, and Dan in the room yelling at me to push. All in all, it was about 12 people. Ok, I just rambled on and on, getting completely off topic. Just thought I would share my experience. I love midwives....they don't seem nearly as rushed to get the job done as a doctor might be.

I think that the important thing is finding a practitioner you are comfortable with. I love my ob and wouldn't trade him for the world. He is kind of different than most obs that I hear about though. He is a huge mother hen. So protective and patient. He never rushes me. He has spent 45 minutes with me during a regular visit trying to reduce some of my concerns about child birth (before dd) and even canceled a trip to see his parents so that he could be the one to deliver my dd. My point to that huge ramble is that as long as you are comfortable with your practitioner what initials they have after their name isn't so important. Also, there is a midwife practice in my area, they deliver at our local hospital and there is always a doc on call, if something should be needed.
Welcome Jo and Snowie!! My m/s started at 5.5-6 weeks. I didn't puke, but felt horrible all day!
