Default Woman tries to steal a baby from the womb!

Okay, I don't know when this happened, but I saw it on babycenter.com and thought this is the scariest thing I may have ever seen!

Woman jailed for trying to steal baby from womb

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A Pennsylvania woman was sentenced on Tuesday to up to 50 years in prison for attempting to cut a fetus from the womb of her pregnant neighbor.

Peggy Jo Conner, 40, pleaded guilty in February to attempted criminal homicide, kidnapping and aggravated assault on an unborn child. She was sentenced on Tuesday to 22 to 50 years in prison at a hearing in Armstrong County Court in western Pennsylvania.

Both mother and child survived the attack and the baby was put up for adoption, as the mother had intended.

Conner attacked Valerie Lyn Oskin on October 12, 2005, with a baseball bat and then drove her to a secluded spot where she cut Oskin's abdomen with a razor knife in an attempt to remove the 8-1/2-month-old fetus, a court document said.

Conner and Oskin were discovered by a boy on an all-terrain vehicle, who raised the alarm.

When police reached the crime scene, they found Oskin with head injuries "from apparent blunt force and a laceration across her lower abdomen," according to a police affidavit. There was also evidence of a "vagina intrusion."

Oskin was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital where she had an emergency C-section to deliver her baby.

The police report said another witness described finding Oskin lying on the ground beside a dirt road.

"She saw a naked woman lying on the ground that was beat so bad that she was unable to recognize her," the statement said. "The victim grabbed her shirt and said, 'Please don't leave me out here.'"

A search of Oskin's trailer found patches of blood on the couch and on the carpet and a wooden baseball bat with Oskin's blood on it.

In Conner's trailer in Ford City, Pennsylvania, police found "a lot of baby items ... which indicated that the defendant was preparing for the birth of a child." But Conner was not pregnant on the day of the attack, and there was evidence to suggest she never had been, the affidavit said.

Conner had a birthing kit that included a razor knife, scissors, shoelaces and yellow rubber gloves.

This happened a few years ago. It's not far from me here in western PA (about 30 miles or so from where I live).

Another recent incident was when a crazy lady stole a newborn just home from the hospital. She knew to go that house because there was a new baby stork sign in their yard. The things you have to think about now days!

Pamela - I thought about that, too, when Dh and I saw those signs at the store. I already told my MIL and Dh that we aren't putting any signs, balloons, streamers, anything out front announcing the birth of our baby. One of our neighbors had balloons and stuff outside her house about 6 months ago, but I am not risking it.
