Kayla - Awesome article. I've read a lot about phthalates. The sad thing is, they're not only in baby products, but in most personal care products, perfumes, hair sprays and mousse, nail polishes etc. They're also what gives pliability to plastics, vinyls and pvc - even plastic wrap that everyone covers their food with has them - except the Glad brand. They're in your car, your vinyl flooring and unfortunately in teething rings and toys.

Here's a link to more information and articles if you're interested.

It's pretty scary when you come to think of all the things that you are exposed to on a daily basis.

Can anyone find a list of the baby products? Everything I've read just says "products" it doesn't list any of them specifically.

Rebecca - Thanks for that pdf. I don't wear makeup, but I am a nail polish queen, and I'll be purging mine this weekend to get rid of the bad ones!

Mere - Here is a link to the 'skin deep'. I did a search for baby wash. You can search by product name, type, company.....

http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/word...uery=baby+wash

I don't use any of my commercial nail polishes anymore either. I did find a water based nail polish that has no phthalates. The colors are nice and it wears well. I also bought nail polish remover from the same company. It works, but you have to rub a little harder than the regular stuff. If you're interested, I'll get that link for you, too.

Ah, Rebecca, can always count on you to come through with the info!

I'd love anything you can post for us. I looked up the bath stuff we use on Katie, and of course it's in the "moderate" category. Which I guess is better than the "high", but I'll still be looking at new stuff for her.

Mere - Just watch that site because some of the information isn't updated. For instance, I looked up Arbonne. 50 products were listed, however at least 80% of those products no longer exist and the ones that do have had formula changes, so the ingredients don't even match. I did a comparison for Judith one day. Although, I have to admit that the Arbonne ABC wash is a good one especially since it has no sls, mineral oils or fragrances.

Some of the Aveeno products are 'low' on the list and so is Dr. Bronners. Actually, dh and I use Dr. Bronners soaps. I love them. They have an unscented baby soap, too.

Rac-I would hope that the Arbonne baby products don't have anything in them, I was about to order some after seeing this thread! BTW, I just LOVE their eye cream, I think it is the reason I don't have wrinkles *yet* lol!

Bina - Actually, I have some of the ABC wash in my shower and I use it once in a while. I added some essential oils to that and their baby oil for some added scent. Love it!

I also think the eye cream is why my eyes look as decent as they do!

Rac - Wow That is great site, thank you, I have been using Dr Bronners from me and Nathan. I love the almond sent. Nathan gets the sent free baby wash. One bottle goes a long way. Glad to see the Aveeno unscented baby lotion is rated green. Few. I was worried I was going to replace that, I just love it.

Ok need to look up my OPI nail polish.

Laura - Don't bother looking up OPI. It used to be my favorite but it's one of the worst - that and Orly

Luckily Marika has been using Aveeno because of her Eczema. They said basically that the products that have phthalates do not always list them because it is a chemical found in certain fragrances. At least that is how I took it.

Kayla - You're absolutely right. That's exactly why I don't use any artificial fragrance at all. Anything scented here is from essential oils. It's a shame, too because dh bought me a bottle of Channel No 5 a couple years ago and I never use it.

Laura - This is where I ordered mine from. They're out of Canada, but I had no problems getting my products and they were fairly quick.
