The teens said the school offers day care.

Pretty sad that there are freakin' day care centers in high schools.

What makes it all the more unbelievable to me is that Gloucester is a middle-class, very Catholic town. I think it was even a dry town until not that long ago! So these girls should supposedly be educated. WTF? So upsetting.

What is sad is that my 15 year old niece told me that there are a number of girls that are pregnant at her school and they did it because they think pregnancy is "cute". I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! Yes, pregnancy is very beautiful but there are plenty of not-so-glamorous parts you have to deal with too. For example, nausea, vomiting, swelling, constipation, hemorrhoids, incontinence, and not to mention the "aftermath" of giving birth takes a toll on your body. I wouldn't change any of it myself but those girls just don't know what happens when you have a baby and the worry that comes with raising your child. I am not even sure that some of those girls would have enough sense to worry about their babies. A distant teen relative of mine got pregnant on purpose and she is learning that it isn't all a walk in the park like she thought. Parenthood is very rewarding and a blessing from God but you need to have an idea of the magnitude of creating and caring for a new life. I just wish that they understood how their lives will change. A baby is a joy but a great responsibility too. Okay I am sorry for rambling.

I remember talking with Daniel several years ago when my oldest SD first got pg, and me with my first within weeks, about the difference between 'getting knocked up' and 'having a baby with someone', and how sad it was that so many people don't know the difference. And that it's a BIG difference.

I'm with you on the 'ugh', Em. UGH!!!

Unfortunately education doesn't equal commonsense.

And daycare centers in highschool?? WTF?

Where are these girls parents? I know that many parents dont have control over their teenagers but why oh why have they not talked to them about the social, finacial and physical ramifications of pregnancy? I saw this on the news this morning and almost spilled my coffee.

Honestly when I read this article, the first thing that popped into my mind was that I can barley arrange dinner for 6 friends, how on earth did they arrange for 17 girls to get pregnant and pull it off??? LOL

But I agree with everyone who's already posted. When I was still working at a high school, I had a girl pg with #2 when #1 was 8 wks old. I was stunned when she told me.

I saw some show trailer on like, TLC or one of those stations where they are 'lending' babies to teenage couples and see how they do.

I think of me at 17 and am like, hell, I WAS doing that at 17 (my goddaughter was born that year), but I also had a job, a car, a high school education, etc.

Nope, they have NO idea how hard it is if you are unprepared (or if you ARE prepared! ). I watched that with my stepdaughters, and the one with the baby was 19, with almost 18 year old and 16 year old sisters, and none of them had a CLUE. Like, SCARY, no clue. And it's not like they were lacking financially or anything like that. They had us -- they LIVED with us most of the baby's first year. So they had me around a lot. But you can just go around popping out kids and taking them home...

She's on her third. Did I tell y'all? Brennon is 3 in October, the newest one is 6 months, and she's pg again. She'll be...22 I think this fall?

I heard this on the tv today (I was in Ashlyns room rocking her) thinking WTH am I hearing this right?!? My medical school that costs an unimaginable amount doesn't even offer childcare. I blame Hollywood a lot on this one...you constantly hear about celeb baby bumps....they don't mention that they have like 5 nannies for their kids though. This world.

I'm 35 years old and the thought of having a baby STILL freaks the hell out of me. I agree with Kayla - Hollywood has ruined many lives. It's a terrible shame that these young girls are looking up to these people.

I think Hollywood should be the one funding these teenage pregnancies because the make it look so cool and wonderful. I like the series coming on shortly where they loan a teenage couples children to raise for three weeks, they even throw in some people from nursing homes showing them how hard it all is. It is about time the glamour is taken out and the real work shown. Sad for the babies that will be born to these children too.

I had my girls when I was almost 19yrs old. It WAS planned, but I was really responsible for my age, I had practically raised my little brother, my Dh and I were financially stable.
I don't regret it not one bit, but I will be the first to tell you that it's not always easy.
Especially, when you have a child with heart problems, like I do.

I do think it is very stupid to try to get preggo, just b/c "it looks cute".
Babies are a lot of work, especially until they can do some things by themselves.

I also agree with Steph...there IS a BIG difference between "getting knocked up" and "having a baby with someone".

Sorry to ramble...UGH...craziness

Like you all said a big UGH!! Instead of glamorizing teen pregnancy, They need a reality show, showing the reality of waking up every 2 hours to feed a newborn, and not being able to run into a coffee shop without hauling a car seat around, etc. and missing out on prom, and other things that teens should be doing instead of having babies.

I will be within days of my 19th birthday(due 11/19, birthday is 11/20) but I have been in a stable relationship and my husband and I have lived together since I was 17. We are financially stable and getting pregnant was VERY intentional. But in high school? You must be joking. I would have preferred getting hit by a bus.
