Default Suggestions for a middle to go with...

Margaret. DH brought this up the other day, he thinks he'd like a 'Maggie', but we're having trouble with a middle. I don't want a 'standard', like Ann, Marie, Leigh, Lynn, or any of that, and I like kind of classic stuff. Some of the other names we have picked out are: Katherine, Grace (middle or first), Eve, Elizabeth (middle), Dorothy (middle - DH's late mother), Rebekah, Matthew, and Nicholas. I thought of Margaret Elizabeth, but it's just such a 'big' name. Pretty, but a little stuffy maybe, but it won't go with anything too girly either. I dunno. HELP! Find a middle for me!

I like Margaret Elise. Then you can do lots of shorter nick names, like maggie, lisa, lizzy, etc.

Another thing to keep in mind are initials... I think there was a post about this before, but what would the baby's initials be and would the name be twisted into something else when they are in elementary school (when so many kids think it's funny to be mean and hurtful).

I like Grace, I think you could use Grace Margaret or Margaret Grace. I also like the idea of Elise.

That's very true Rebecca. I didn't think about that. So the initials would be ME?. I had a friend in high school who's initials were SAD. I have a whole new problem now that I'm married though. My last name is Dye, so I have to be careful what we name our kids to go with that. It could never be Jed (Jed Dye, not a star wars fan), Red ( I would never name my kid that anyway, I promise), but you get the idea. Dh said he wants to name the first son Live. I didn't think that was very funny.

Oh yes, rac, I ALWAYS think of initials! I am one of the people who begs friends not to name kids things that can be used as ammunition. Some kids are cruel, they don't need help. Our last name starts with 'L'. So Elise would be M.E.L. Nothing wrong there. Elise is pretty.

I never thought of putting Grace with it - I had been stuck on using Grace as the middle with Katherine, or as the first with Elizabeth as the middle. Hmmmm....

My friend Sadie always thought her name cursed her. She said it was made up of two horrible words SAD-DIE.

I like Maggie Elizabeth too.

Gem - Grace Elizabeth is a pretty name... that would end up as GEL.... how could kids mess with that?

My sister's name is Brook. (My mom didn't believe in silent letters, Brook no E, Sara no H. My older sister's name is Sheri, pretty simple I guess. Anyway, my maiden name started with a B, and Brook's middle name is Ann, so we called her BAB's for a nickname. Once again, initials matter. lol

It just occurred to me that Maggie and Gracie are the names of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's oldest girls. :P Oh, the things the brain retains... LOL!

I hate how some names get ruined. My HS coach's name was Maggie, and I couldn't stand the woman. So now I just cringe at the name. There are lots of names that get ruined by who they are associated with. (I do think it is a cute nickname, I just could never use it myself.)

I was thinking that a little while ago. I might have entertained 'Joseph' as a middle, but he is the 'donor' for stepdaughter's son, and we don't like him very much. DH suggested 'Noah', but it is my best girlfriend's nephew's name, and we don't like them very much. *sigh*

I like Margaret Grace. So, if I pair them all up that way, move this to there...hmm...the choices are:

Katherine Michelle (Michelle is my middle)
Margaret Grace
Eve Danielle (Danielle is feminine of DH's first - Daniel)
Elizabeth Dorothy (Dorothy is DH's late mother)

Matthew Lewis (DH's middle is Lewis)
Nicholas Andrew

Pretty good group, I think. No initials problems (all works with 'L' last name).

Yesterday, I thought of Margaret Alicia – said like Alicia Silverstone “Ah-lee-cee-ah”. Similar to Elise. I decided it needed something a little soft and girly to balance it out.
