I'm voting for Samuel. I really, REALLY wanted a Sam, but DH doesn't like it. It's a great name... not "different" sounding, but you never see any of them out there.
I like Dominic, but I think it seems strange w/ the "e" (Domenic.) JMO-- I know you didn't want anything different, and I'm just letting you know b/c I've never see it that way before. |

Jo - I was also thinking - I don't remember what your last name is. If it's not something that's obviously a last name, then if you picked Cooper, it's possible that people in school might not know which is his first name and which is his last name. I have a friend whose last name is Cooper and the first thinkgs she's picked for her twins are so "different" that I'n not sure if people will know which is their first and which is their last name.

You have picked some really nice names.
Domenic (would call him Nico as a child) - I like the name but I honestly have never seen it spelled that way either I really like the name. Samuel (my husband's FAVORITE boy name) - This is my favorite too Dawson (means son of David) Cooper - I like the name but I know someone and the kid really gets teased for his name the kids call hime Cooper pooper Joseph Andrew - I really like this one too Ryan - This name is used a lot for a girl now I don't know if that makes a difference or not. |

Hmmm, you girls have given me lots to think of already. As for the Domenic, I'm not sure I've really ever seen it spelled so it's possible that I am adding an -e instead of the -i. I love this name b/c it is Italian and has a cute nickname. I have a Nico in my class and he is the cutest little Italian boy. Now that I am looking at the name I think it IS Dominic. My student is Nicolo.
I really like Samuel, but my DH had a beloved pet named Sammy and I don't want to have to tell our child he was named after a dog. Our last name is Broome (sounds just like the sweeper), so we need a multi-syllable first name. We also both like Lucas and Mason. I like Emerson, but DH not so much. |

Jo-a lot depends on how popular of a name you are want or don't want. Joseph and Andrew are probably in all of the top 10 lists. I think the name Dominic is really cute and you don't hear it too much. I personally have always loved the name Ryan. Emerson is a very popular girls name now too. Choosing a name is SO hard, but you will know which one is right for you

Also, make sure to keep in mind the nicknames, since that is what kids usually end up going by. Do you like Joe? Sam? etc.; and think about when he writes his name, or it is called out in class:
Joe Broome Sam Broome Dom(or Nico?) Broome (FYI: My friend's son is Dominic, and everyone calls him Dom) and so on Personally, I really like the nickname Niko/Nico, like you said, and I think Dominic Broome and Nico Broome both sound great. I say don't worry TOO much about the sound of the full name, b/c you seldom will call him that (except when he is in trouble, probably.) Sometimes, for no reason, I'll call the boys their full names ("Joel Kieran" and "Evan Matisse") just b/c I think it is a bit disappointing that we spent all that time trying to figure out their names, then never really use them! Honestly, all the names you chose are really nice sounding, so no matter what, your kid is gonna have a decent name! (And I LOVE Samuel Dawson. Very classy.) |
