Default Parlodel to regulate Prolactin levels

My doctor just precribed Parlodel, to help regulate my prolactin levels. I started it last night. I am curious to see if this has worked for anyone else on the boards. Any also taking it?

hi sparky, i had high prolactin levels too, i was diagnosed in december. My Dr put me on Dostinex, he said parlodel gave a lot of people too many side effects. I had no side effects with Dostinex.
I´ve been on Dostinex for 6 weeks, got my levels rechecked this week and they´re back to 1. ( they were forty something in Dec)

I´m glad you´re in treatment, and if you need anything PM me.

Mari

the test showed I was at 88 at 15 minutes, and 70 at 30 minutes. much higher than the 40, 30 20, etc. I am taking the parodel vaginally, to lessen the side effects. its only day two, so none yet.

Were you ovulating before you started the medicine? if not, have you ovulated since? i haven't ovualted yet, even on 150mg of clomid, so I am really hoping this will fix me.

sparky- my doctor thinks i have been ovulating, based on my progesterone a nd other levels. He saw all my charts, and well, i could sense something bothered him , but im not sure.
I have to get more bloodwork done on CD3, and then make another appointment.
So, I´ll keep you posted.

I wanted to share these developments, in case they might help others out there. I am caustiously optimistic after my appt today. I have a 9mm folicle on each ovary - i've never had a dominant folicle before. My doctor was pretty excited & thinks that the parodel is working. She gave me homework (estrogen & BD this weekend). My next appt is Monday & hopefully will bring more positive news!

The dr. told me to try BD this time, since it is the first time I've had a dominant follicle. On Monday, she is going to see how the fluid/sperm looks, etc. She said next month we may do IUI.

Good news! Parlodel works!
I finally ovulated after taking parlodel & 150mg of Clomid - & had, according to my Dr., "a very pretty follicle". Now, it looks like it will be up to timing & the little swimmers!

For those of you out there with the same challenges I had (no periods/not ovulating on Clomid), ask your Dr. about a prolactin stimulation. I tiny little pill was able to regulate the hormone levels that were preventing me from ovulating. The stimualtion test was not fun, but it was obviously worth. I hope this helps some of you out there! If anyone has any questions, send me a pm.[/img]

Parlodel regulates the levels of prolactin (a hormone produced by the pituitary gland). When levels are spiky & irregular, it can prevent ovualtion. To determine if this is an issue, your Dr can have you do a prolactin stimulation test - they hook you up to an IV, give you a dose of prolactin & then measure your prolactin levels 4 times over the next 3 hours. In my case, my levels were spiky, so she put me on parlodel. Then next month, with clomid, i ovulated for the first time (& I had been on clomid for 3 months prior with no luck).
Hope this helps!!

Jen- im so happy the parlodel did it for you. YAY to ovulating!!! Keep us posted on your IUI!!! But dont give up on BD , now that youve got juicy follies , maybe its just timing!!
I took dostinex, to regulate my prolactin levels, thankfully they´ve come down, but now i have low estrogen. Í just started my treatment, so it´s just one more step towards my baby.
