Rac- Can't wait to hear about your appointment!
Lauren- Good luck putting your house on the market. Have you and DH started looking in the other area? Have you put any feelers out for jobs? Or will you just wait until this house sells? (sorry for so many ??'s in a row LOL) |

Cassie - No, I couldnt' see it LOL... but I did change my shirt before leaving!
So here it is. The appointment went well. I was surprised that the doctor was not at all concerned with my FSH levels. She said that the usual span is in regards to IVF patients and that the poor responders generally have FSH levels over 20. As far as my age and reserve, it could be an indicator, but again, she’s not concerned. She was generally happy with Brad’s SA results stating that they are ‘normal’ and we should only be concerned if they were less than 20mm. Of course, she wants a repeat. He can either do that on his own or she’ll get a count if we decide to do IUI – which is what she is recommending. She liked my charts and seemed happy with my cycles (and impressed with my organization and knowledge of our test results). I clearly ovulate and have normal length cycles. So the plan is this….. I start poas tomorrow. She wants to get a picture of everything. Since I am on cd8, I can start my opks tomorrow. I bought the Answer 20 strip pack. I have to poas first thing in the morning. I asked Dee about the surge supposedly being in the afternoon which she said was false – otherwise they wouldn’t recommend FMU for opks. When I get a positive, I will call the office (Dee – my nurse coordinator). I will go into the office that morning for bloodwork (E2 and LH) and an ultrasound to check for follies and the size(s). Once I start my next cycle, I will call Dee on cd1 to schedule cd3 b/w which she will test FSH, TSH and Prolactin. Cd1 is ‘flow’ anytime before noon. Anything after noon is considered the following day. I thought it was later (like 6:00 PM). Here’s what I found interesting…. Prolactin is a fasting test and I am NOT allowed to shower prior to the test! She said nothing that causes nipple stimulation prior to the test as it can interfere with the results. Even water hitting my boobs will cause stimulation! Who’d have thought?? At that time, we make an appointment to go over the test results and make a decision as to what we want to do. Here’s the thing…. We’re scheduled to be in Myrtle Beach the weekend that my next cycle is scheduled to start. I am hoping and praying that I have a normal cd14 ovulation so that I don’t have to wait another month for the rest of the testing. If I have a cd11 ovulation like I did this past month, I will be in MB on cd3. That would suck. However, I am taking an herbal concoction this month because I am trying to delay my O because of the MB trip…. I wasn’t prepared for testing so soon. I hope it doesn’t mess with my levels too much (I’m a planner and sometimes mother nature has to be messed with). Maybe the stress of an early ovulation will actually delay my O??? Here I go again… over analyzing. Isn’t this why I took a ttc break in the first place??? She did a pelvic exam to check my cervix to see how it looks after having LEEP. She said that it seems awfully tight and that could be the reason for not getting pg. Having LEEP also reduces the cervical crypts, that produce the fertile fluid. Um, hello Dr Cypher, didn’t I ask you about that and you said it was nothing to worry about??? Jerk! She agrees that IUI is our best bet since having timed intercourse for three years hasn’t worked. We have the option of doing clomid with timed bd, unmedicated IUI or clomid IUI. I am not opposed to taking clomid even though it is not a bio identical hormone supplement (which injectibles are). If I take it for a few months and nothing happens, I can cleanse to get rid of it. I’m pretty sure I will opt for the Clomid (depending on the price since I’m pretty sure my insurance will not cover it) and it looks like IUI is in my relatively near future (could be as soon as April). The IUI cost is $250 and that includes a sperm wash, which will have to be out of pocket and if there are any u/s involved with the IUI process, that would be out of pocket as well. I didn’t think that was too bad and Brad was expecting a much higher number. The cost for today’s appointment was $238. I had a $30 co-pay. I sure hope this insurance stuff works out. It makes me nervous. I did ask Dr Albert (who introduced herself as Judy, btw) about the coding and insurance covering the testing up to diagnosis. She said basically, since I am there I am ‘diagnosed’ with unexplained infertility and insurance will cover the tests needed up to the IUI itself. Good news is…. I do NOT need another hsg. YAY! That was the worst ever and she doesn’t see any reason to do a lap. She said that usually they can see signs of endo on a u/s, so that isn’t necessary. She never mentioned the endo biopsy, either. I told her that Dr Cypher wanted to do the endo biopsy then a lap before even suggesting clomid or a post coital test (which she didn’t suggest either). She seems much more optimistic about IUI with or without clomid and is staying away from the invasive testing. Phew! She said nothing to Brad about smoking or alcohol, but did suggest (she didn’t harp in any way) that I cut back. So, as I type this note and smoke a cigarette, a new package of Nicorette gum is downstairs on the dining room table (which btw…. Brad just went to the store to buy smokes). I’m not sure he will ever quit. I asked Brad what he thought and he’s a little confused, scared etc, but ultimately, he said that he will do what ever I want. Which is what I told Dr. Albert he would say. I’m trying to remember everything. It seemed so fast even though we were there for two hours. I’m a bit overwhelmed, never thought I’d be at THIS point, but overall glad that I went. If I never have a baby, I will at least be able to live a guilt free life knowing that we did try everything that was within our moral standards and be happy with life as it is with our dogs. |

Rebecca-All of that sounds absolutely wonderful. I like her approach by what you described. I hope O cooperates and your CD3 doesn't fall while in MB. If it isn't bad enough that we have to deal with IF but it seesm we then have to worry about when we are going to O to ensure we can maximize the most out of our cycles and testing.
Well ladies I'm pretty sure I'm going to be out this month. Out of no where when I went to the bathroom I had my usual pre-AF spotting. Totally unexpected. Last time the 2nd trigger made my LP really long (like 17 days). Today is only 12DPO. So if I start tomorrow, which by the way she's not welcome and definitely not welcome since its my b-day, I feel like that is short for a medicated cycle with me. As the day goes on the bloating is subsiding, which from what I read is not unsual with the on set of AF. I don't know what to think and trying hard not to have a meltdown at work. Trying to save it for the drive home. It makes no sense to me that I respond well to pretty low doses of meds yet we can't seem to get pg. May be our best chances are also with the IUI, which will obviously be our next step. But frankly after how I've felt this last week from the meds I don't want to do it anytime soon! |

Heidi - Thanks! I was pretty happy with her approach also. I'm just so surprised that we're starting b/w and u/s this week. My head is kinda spinning.
I looked at your chart and NO TEMPS! Blah! I love looking at temps. Cd12 could be implantation spots???? I'm trying to be optimistic for you. |

Lauren - Sorry about AF. The house selling news is exciting!
Heidi - Well since the spotting is early, I'm going with Rebecca & hoping it's implantation. Especially since last time your LP was 17 days. Rebecca - I'm so glad it went well! Yeah for moving right along with this! That's exciting that the b/w & u/s is right around the corner! I hope that O doesn't interfere with CD 3 testing & MB. That's great the insurance will cover the testing up to an IUI! Kimberly - Hi! Deanna - Sorry about AF. |

Rac - I'm really glad to see you getting active with all of this!! I too had the LEEP! I had lots of scar tissue, I think that is why I never dialated. I will be keeping up with your new journey!!! Seems like you like the doc as well, that's a huge + huh! I have started temping...I am marking the days we have unprotected bd just incase there is an accident. I want to see what my crazy body is going to do off of BCP so I will have a good idea of when to try, when we are ready to try.

Cassie - It really irritates me that I specifically asked my old gyn about the LEEP and my cervix in relation to conceiving. He point blank told me that it wasn't an issue. Here, this doctor specifically wanted to look at my cervix because of the LEEP. Just shows you how different things are approached with a RE.
Good luck temping. Did you put your chart in your profile?? We like to stalk, you know??? |
