Since today is my first acupuncture appointment, I did some digging to see what I could find. There is SO much information out there about acupuncture and fertility. I'm really excited about tonight!!!

I just got back a little while ago. Acupuncture was really different - in a good way. I only felt a couple of the needles - one in my left foot at L3 (liver 3) and one on my abdomen at my descending colon (haven't had a good movement today - which isn't normal for me). There was one other that didn't feel good, but that's because it was in a sweat pore or hair follicle. She took that one out. Also, my Sp6 point was like a huge pit. We need to get that straightened out. Sp6 is one of the points to avoid during pregnancy, so I need to look that one up and see what it means. It was pretty funky, though. OMG and so relaxing. I could fall asleep right now. I've been in a fog since I got off the table - so much that I didn't pay attention to the fact that I put my shirt back on inside out. I could definitely feel the Chi moving, though. I had to pee before we started then when we were done had an urgent need to pee again - she said that is normal because of stuff moving around.

I left with some info about acupuncture/fertility, some 'happy pills' as she called them. They're herbs that I have to take - 12 pills 2x a day. I go back next Tuesday (before O) for another treatment and different herbs.

Glad it went well! That's how I felt after leaving the accupuncturist I saw in college-nice! The last one just made me mad and I never could relax. Yikes, that's a lot of herbs! Are they pricey? Seems like the herbs at my last place were a ton of $$$.

No, they're not. This bottle was $11. She said that herb supplements for the month would only be about $35-$40 total. Not too bad. They're funky looking little things. They look like black pearls!

Rac, glad you had a good session. I fully believe in alternative medicine after it worked for my sister's IVF cycle and it worked for getting Jack to turn from a breech presentation. Are you doing IUI this month or timed BD? I can't wait to follow your chart!!! Good luck on Thursday!

Very interesting I am curious to see how the next months go for you RAC, I have to say I have thought seriously about that myself.

I really think the acupuncture has initiated some type of healing crisis. I'm still 'in a fog' even after I had a good 7 hours of solid sleep. I've been coughing ever since I got off the table yesterday and my head aches and my ears feel clogged. I've been having some ringing in my ears for about the past two years. Sydnie said that often is related to emotional trauma and the yin deficiency. Makes perfect sense to me. I do believe the acupuncture made a serious impact on my body. Oh and I have almost NO desire to smoke and if I do, it's not even satisfying.

Kristy - No IUI this month. We may do some timed bd, but I haven't even picked up the thermometer! I may start taking a few temps to verify O - to better arrange my future acupuncture sessions.

Gotta take my little black pearls. I'm anxious to see what effect I feel from those.

In case anyone is wondering what a 'healing crisis' is.....

A healing crisis occurs after every treatment for illness you might have. Western pharmaceuticals tend to suppress many of the symptoms of a 'healing crisis', but alternative therapies depend on them. As your body realigns itself and begins to eliminate the toxins that have built up, you experience some period of discomfort, or at least a period of feeling 'different' somehow. A healing crisis may have only slight symptoms or they may be quite severe. Symptoms may be: sleepiness or fatigue, thirst, nausea, cramps, diarrhea, headache, shooting pains, muzziness around the head, build up of mucous, disorientation, dizziness, coughing, etc.

In chronic conditions you may experience a temporary worsening of all symptoms and wonder if the treatment was successful.
It is usually recommended, following a treatment of any kind, that you rest and drink plenty of water to help flush out the body. If you feel sleepy or thirsty, this is your body telling you what it needs. It is usually a good idea to go with it.
With more severe symptoms, you body is again telling you to find a comfortable place and position and let it do its job. In all cases a Healing Crisis is a good sign. It means your body is clearing out toxins and on its way to feeling better.

In most cases, the discomfort will pass in a day or two, or at most a week, depending on how deeply the cleansing goes. But be assured, that once it is passed, you will feel very much better.
We may be tempted to take our trusty Aspirin or Pepto-Bismol, or something stronger. You are better to resist the temptation to suppress symptoms during a Healing Crisis. All you will be doing is introducing more toxins into your body to suppress the symptoms, which is what caused the illness in the first place.
A follow up of Acupuncture or Reiki, will help speed up the process and reduce the more severe symptoms, but a Healing Crisis is a necessary and vital part of the process that lets you know it is working.
Don't be alarmed. Your body is actually very wise and very good at protecting itself. When the body begins to detoxify it does so in a manner and at a rate that it can handle. If you have a strong constitution, chances are it will clear itself faster and more intensely and be over with more quickly. If your constitution is relatively weaker, it will take longer and symptoms will be considerably milder.
In my opinion, you can help your own healing by being consciously aware of what your body is doing. Instead of popping a pill to cover up the symptoms or trying to fight off the fatigue.. go with it. Imagine that there is a thick gray sludge and it is slowly oozing out of your body taking with it all the pain and poisons. Imagine that your Anger or your Fear is draining away from your life.
Imagine that you are following behind with a powerful cleaner and scrubbing brush, cleaning and polishing your pipes until they look bright, shiny and new. They could be made of metal or glass, or if you prefer they could be multicoloured and psychedelic. You may imagine that you are tuning a musical instrument to perfect pitch. As the discomfort resolves your body plays better and better and better.
The possibilities are endless and certainly better than suffering in silence and feeling helpless.
How we feel about pain, determines, to a large degree how much we are incapacitated by it.

Rebecca, that is interesting about the healing crisis. I had some systemic yeast symptoms and when I did the yeast cleanse I felt awful for the first week. It is good to know the whys of it

Lisa - I've heard that yeast cleanse is brutal. I bet you felt a lot better after it was done though. If my sister would ever NOT be pg or bf, I'd like to see her do one. I'm convinced that she has systemic candida.

Even when I did my cleansing a couple weeks ago, I had a nasty headach the first two days - that was my body telling me that things were moving around. It's a brilliant machine that we live in, if only more people would listen to it.

Since I started posting about acupuncture questions have been asked regarding how to find a good practitioner. Well, I emailed Sydnie and this was her reply. Hope it helps someone...

for someone looking for an acupuncturist... the nccaom.org website will list practitioners in the area. also, just google "acupuncture (your town)".

when interviewing an acupuncturist, ask if they have passed all nccaom board exams (acupuncture and herbs), if they are licensed by the state. then ask if they have done any post graduate education on fertility. everyone graduating from acupuncture school can do basic fertility stuff, but extra seminars are really helpful. after that, just meet them and see if you hit it off. don't be afraid to try a couple people to find one you are comfortable with. this is such an emotional issue, trust and comfort are important.
