Well, I had my doctor's appointment yesterday to see if I was ready for the IUI, and he said my follicles were too small, so we would have to wait a few more days and then see if I was ready. He said it was a 50/50 shot of not being able to do the IUI and just having to do it later. Is this common the first cycle of IUI? He mentioned he may put me on a higher dosage of Clomid next month, which would help my follicles grow faster. I guess I just assumed there would be no reason why it would be delayed. Any experiences people can share their first cycle of IUI?
Thanks! |

Missy -
my first clomid / IUI cycle - I had only one mature follicle. The second month when he increased the clomid - i had two mature follicles. I think this is common. Basically, the doctor needs to figure out how much clomid you need!!! |

Missy - I have had 5 IUI's - For the 1st one I was on 100mg of Clomid and had 2 follicles - got pg but had m/c at 5wks. Round 2 - also 100mg with 2 follicles, Rounds 3 & 4 - 150mg - with 2 mature follicles and 2-3 smaller ones. Round 4 I also had daily Follistim injections. Round 5 - no Clomid at all.
I think the # of follicles depends on the dosage and your own body's reaction to the med. If Clomid alone doesn't produce enough mature follicles for an IUI they may up your dose or also include the use of injectibiles. |

Thanks Rebecca - are you doing IUI anymore or what are you doing now?
My doctor finally returned from his vacation, so I was able to ask more questions (the doctor filling in did his best, but ended up confusing me more than helping me). He said that it was okay to only have one mature follicle because usually the sperm all go towards the most developed. Obviously, more follicles leads to more chances, but he didn't seem concerned at all about the one follicle. I guess at this point I am not going to have the clomid increased, but that is good to know that that is a possibility to help things along. Melissa |

Missy - I had a "surprise" IUI (#5) this month when I went to the RE. I had only 1 very large follicle and he decided to do an IUI - I wasn't on the Clomid this month b/c I was waiting to see what the RE had to say. If you read the regular ttc thread, I did test yesterday but the result wasn't clear. I plan on testing tomorrow as I will be 13dpo. I have a pg b/t scheduled for Tues 8/1 in the am to offically call it.

Missy - Thanks. Baby dust to you too! Did you have 2 procedures or just one? My reg Doc always did 2 IUI's, 2 days in a row but this time the RE just did 1 IUI on the day of O. I so hope this is it for all of us going through IUI!!
