Default I hate my insurance!!! BIG VENT

Tomorrow I have to go for the HSG (dye) test. Today, the doctor's office called to inform me that they contacted my insurance, and apparently my insurance won't cover the test. I still want to go ahead with it, but I am TERRIFIED of the cost. It will be just under $400 for my doctor's bill, and since the test is done at a medical center (not the dr. office), I will be charged the hospital bill as well (for using their facilities and equipment). I am so upset. I'm scared this is going to cost thousands of dollars (which I know realistically it is going to).
I HATE MY INSURANCE! When I went for my routine exam (pap smear), they denied my claim for that, stating they do not cover routine exams for patients over 16 years. What the heck am I paying monthly payments for, if they don't cover anything???!!!??

Anyway, just had to get that out. I was already nervous about this procedure, and I am sad that DH will not be there with me for it. Now, this is just making me an absolute wreck.

Sarah~ I had the HSG test done in March. It was performed at the hospital in the X-ray dept. The total cost was only $697.00. It's really not that bad and at least this way you'll know if your tubes are blocked or not.
Luckily my insurance has paid just over $200.00 so far.

Regina-- if it is only a few hundred dollars, that's not so bad. Thanks for making me feel a little better! I'm just nervous that it's going to cost thousands. Maybe I'm really off, though.

I called my mom after I posted to vent to her. She wants me to wait on it, and just have DH do the SA first. Technically. that is the way it should go. But DH won't get that done for awhile, and I can't stand not DOING anything anymore. The more I think about it, I realize that I've never had a pregnancy scare, and I wasn't always the most responsible with BC. The fact that I have never been pregnant just makes me believe that the problem is on my end. It could all be in my head, but I swear I've always thought that I wouldn't be able to conceive. I know that sounds stupid, but it's true, and that's why I feel like I just need to start finding out. I'm just afraid of the cost that comes it (Literally.)

Sarahjane-this may be too late. But if you tell the Doctor that you are paying cash and not going through insurance you may be able to get a discount. Also they should be able to tell you beforehand what the cost is. I have never heard of ANY insurance not covering the annual pap smear!!!!?????

Sarah - sorry to hear about the insurance fiasco! I'm a bit concerned about my own insurance when it comes to all of this too. Mine doesn't cover annual exams either and my deductible is super high so I pretty much get to pay for everything I have done. Insurance does suck! Sadly enough I work in an insurance office!

I hope it is not too expensive for you!

Well, I haven't gotten the denial claim yet (to see how much this thing cost me), but I'm glad I went ahead and had it done. My test was "beautiful", according to the doctor. She said you couldn't ask for a clearer set of tubes!
Now DH really needs to get his SA... he was supposed to go this week but I O'd early (day 12!) I'm wondering if the HSG somehow made me O 3 days early (?) because I've been day 14 or 15 as long as I've been keeping track.
Anyway, we happily BD'ed, and I am keeping high hopes that the HSG may have "cleared the pipes", as some people say happens!
Otherwise, we will make sure to get him in for his SA in the next couple of weeks.

I have to say, I hate the insurance, but if I end up with a BFP this month, it will completely be worth forking out the dough!

Glad your test went well Sarah. Hope your DH's SA does too.

The bill from the hospital came today- $895. That does not include my doctor's portion of $375, though. So all in all, about $1300. Yikes. Oh well, I expected about double that, so I guess I should be positive!
