Thumbs down

OK I just typed an entire post - a long one and it is gone? I am pretty sure it is my fault...I hate typing on the laptop sometimes.

Anyway, we are home and Andrew is doing great. He left the hospital weighing in at 6lbs, 10ozs. We see the pediatrician on Monday at 1:30.

I pretty much spend my nights watching him - afraid to go to sleep ! DH will get up for the 5 a.m. feeding and I will pump and go to sleep for a couple hours. I know it is just a matter of time before it catches up with me and then I will be forced to sleep! There is just something that gives me peace of mind by having him downstairs in the pack and play and me on the chair next to him. Even though i have the bassinet right next to my bed upstairs. I don't know - I think I have definitely gone crazy!

I still can't believe we are home! Between my 77 days and Andrew's 48 days it was time to go. It was sad to say good bye to the nurses who took care of Andrw and I. If there is one thing that I have learned being in the hospital for 125 days it is that nurses should call the shots. If it wasn't for them doctors would be LOST! I thank God for the nurses I had in antipartum (all l&D nurses) and the nurses on when I delivered. They were awesome. And, the nurses in the NICU were great too. They look out for their patients and let the doctors know what is going on. I have learned that most doctors are completely out of touch . They are all nice and very competent - but they need to learn to have more consultations with the nurses!

I did start seeing a chiropractor. He is great. Mostly because my neck was bothering me from the accident. Of course I was not the picture of health after my bedrest - but the accident definitely aggrivated it. I had never been to a chiropractor and I have to say - it isn't 1/2 bad. He told me my back is so out of aignment. I have been having a lot of low back pain besides the neck pain. He was gentle the first visit but the second they did electic stimuli (?), deep tissue massage and then an adjustment. I felt almost immeidate relief when I left. I do have some paid again - but he said it would take a while to be pain free. Whoo hoo! Can't wiat for that!

The hormones are out of control these days. I just sit and feed him and cry! I think DH is terrified of PPD so he follows me around and keeps asking me if everything is OK. I just think the whole getting him home, the accident, thinking about Abigail - it is all catching up to me and I just have to let it out sometimes!

Ok - i'm signing off for a bit! SOrry for the long post.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer!

Jen so glad that you and your family are at home and doing well!!!! I was the same way when I came home. I could just start crying for no reason. DH would look and me and ask what was wrong and I would saying nothing!!! Very confusing for a guy!!! I know it is hard with everything that you have been through but please get your rest when you can. Please keep us updated. We will be thinking of you, DH, Andrew and Winston!!!! Oh before I forget did you put up a pray card in Andrews bassinet at home??

I can't believe I forgot to mention Winston - afterall - he was our first son ! He has been great. I can see he gets nervous when the baby cries - I just hear a big "woof" - just one! And if the baby continues he will do it again. Not sure what it is all about - is he telling us Andrew is crying? Is he jealous and he wants to be heard too? DH and I will ask Andrew when he starts to wake up - "do you want some food". Well, the "f" word is Winston's favorite and since eating is also his favorite past time - he jumps off the chair and runs to his dish...oops! Poor guy. So we give him a cookie. We actually have to spell "f-o-o-d" but now he is on to that too ! We had this whole thing planned out when we came home from the hospital with DAve, me, Andrew Winston a bone some treats - try to associate all good things with the baby. He could care less about the baby once he smelled the treats/food!

Since I was away for a while - it took him some time I think he was a little mad - and DH was his main guy, kwim. When DH holds Andrew, Winston will check out the situation - when I hold him he just kind of watches us. I think as long as he gets his walks and food he will be fine :O)!

I am trying to think of ideas for birth announcements and I think I want to get Winston an I'm the big brother shot and incorporate him into the shot. I think my family thinks I am crazy. I also talked to the social worker at the hospital and she gave me a site for announcements when a twin has died. I think I am sending 2 different announcements - one for Andrew and another for Abigail!

I have one in the pack and play - it was the same one in his crib when he was in the NICU. I have to put a new one in his bassinet.

OK - I am being called...gotta go.

Good to hear from all of you!

THanks!

Jen

Jen- first of all I am so glad Andrew is home and everyone is getting settled in. As far as sleeping once you start to get more comfortable you will ease back into bed but for now do what makes you feel better. I was nervous when I brought Riley home from NICU too and had to touch her to make sure she was breathing.

As for the emotions and hormones. We ALL have and have had that after having babies some more intense than others. You have been through way more than we have so of course you are feeling tons of emotions. That is so normal. And letting it out is a good thing. And maybe there is a bit of PPD. So what! That is normal too! Keep your doctor in the loop. You are doing great.

I am so proud of Winston too. This has all been majorly life changing for him too. He is a good boy and loves his new brother!

Thanks everyone! It is great to be a family...FINALLY!!!

Karen - I forgot Riley was in the NICU. Wasn't it hard getting used to having her home with no monitors? DH and I had our eyes fixed on the monitor. By the end we were much better! They would even make us feed him with the monitors off. They would always tell us that full term newborns have some of the same issues -b ut they aren't all hooked up to monitors. When a baby burps - his heartrate can drop. When i really thought about it, it made sense...but, I still feel the need to watch him breathe.

We went to our first pediatrition visit today. Andrew left the NICU weighing 6lbs, 10 ozs. The doctor weighed him today and he was 7lbs, 2 ozs. He has been eating like a champ!

He is such a good boy! We are really enjoying having him home with us.
