Sweetpea ~ Sounds like you should definitely chart your temps! I dont know what brand of OPK's you are using, but I have had problems with certain brands (never getting a positive). The only true way of monitoring your cycles is to temp, so that you can look for that temp rise that confirms O day..... How long is your cycle? Has AF not shown since Aug. 1st?

Sweetpea....How long are your cycles?? If you had AF at the end of August, you should be due for AF again soon. If your cycles aren't more than 35 days, it's considered 'normal' and you more than likely do ovulate. You may be missing your surge like Dani mentioned.

The doctor told me that as long as my thyroid stays at the level it currently is at all is well. They tested me and I should know by Monday what the results are. He also said that sometimes it can take up to 7 months after going off bc to start ovulating again. He said basically to sit back let mother nature take her course and not to worry about. He even said to hold off for another 4 months before I begin in depth charting. The doctor said sometimes when you begin charting your body stresses over it and then makes it harder yet.

Sweetpea- Before I begin, I'll start with that I have little to no respect for doctors as I went through 5 of them fighting for what I wanted. I did have a pre-conception exam and that's actually where I discovered my thyroid issue before even starting to TTC. I'm curious to know what your thyroid levels are, as regular doctors have a different perception of what normal is compared to an RE. And lastly you can ask around on different parts of the board but 7 months is a LOOOOOOOOONG time to be waiting for your cycle to regulate. I think your Drs is being too laid back on this. Each time I've gotten off the pill I ovulated the next cycle - that doesn't happen to everyone, but 7 months seems a bit long.
It's obviously up to you and what you are comfortable with. You just started TTC so I can see why you wouldn't want to stress just yet. But there is nothing wrong with taking control of your fertility and monitoring your hormones. And that's advise I give women whether they are TTC or not.

Sweatpea-I would also be curious about your thyroid level. Both Betsy and I take meds for it. It was my initial experience several years ago before TTC that my doctor didn't think I needed to see a specialist when I tested at around 5 for my TSH. The when I strated TTC everyone took it serious and now I'm on meds, monitored and try to keep my level under at least 2.
Secondly I would begin monitoring your cycles and not wait the months. I didn't get into temping or OPKs until a year into TTC and found that I actually ovulate a bit later in my cycle than the "normal day 14". I agree with Betsy to take charge of your body. Then you will truly know if there is an issue and can bring it forward to the doctor to pursue. Good luck. |

Sweetpea - I have to agree with Heidi and Betsy. You should be aware of what your body is doing. Your dr. may be right when he says that temping can add extra stress but I found after you get throught the first couple months you are more at ease with it and understand it better. I think if you wait until a year goes by you will be stressed because it has been a year ttc and on top of that you will stress about learning how to temp. It is up to you but it also is really nice to get in tune with your body and have an understanding of what is going on.

My thyroid level is 2.23 which is where the specialist wants me to be at. I started at 7.25 back in 2003 and have finally gotten somewhere after arguing with my dr. for several months on wanting to see a specialist. Now the doctor is saying that since my levels are in the normal range that I have nothing to worry about. I am going to worry about it because who knows how long I had thyroid problems before it was detected. A doctor I seen a few weeks after going off the pill told me that I could get pregnant right away even if my body was ready. I do plan on asking my insurance company if I can go see someone else without having any issues. In december I have to meet with my thyroid specialist and I plan on talking to her about conception.

Don't let them tell you that everything is fine now that your thyroid is in check. I finally went on meds in July 2006. When I went back to the OB in Dec. 2006 (I had already been off bcp for over a year) he told me that it's like I was just starting TTC because of my thyroid not being at the normal level and to give it 3 more months. Well I gave it about 2 more and went back to a different OB within the group and she started moving me forward with testing and now I'm with an RE. Granted they still haven't found anything as to why I haven't gotten pg but it got old when everyone kept dismissing me and blaming the thyroid. Another reason I say to start tracking your body.
