Default Reactions to Mirena IUD Removal

I had my Mirena IUD removed last week on wednesday May 21st, well on Saturday I started having really bad cramping and started AF (1st one in over a year, ouch). Since then i've had headaches, nausea, moodiness, cramping and heavy bleeding... I am sure this is all normal but I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this and could tell me how long it lasts???

We are planning on charting for 2-3 months before TTC so I'll be rejoining this side soon

Jen - If you hadn't had a period in over a year, I'm sure there's a lot of built up old blood in there that has to go. I'd say that if it continues for over a week, call your doctor. Also, the headaches, nausea etc could very well be from a hormonal shift (I believe that particular IUD has synthetic hormones in it). It's good that you got it out. I hope your cycle cooperates and you are able to ttc when you want.

Jen, I didn't have any reactions like you mentioned when mine fell out but I felt like crap the entire time I had it and felt so much better within a few weeks. Your fertility comes back right away with removal so be careful if you plan on waiting a few months before ttc.

Jen- I used to have an IUD. It wasn't the Mirena though...it was the Paraguard, which had NO hormones in it.
I had some back pains, but that was about it.

Oh, my Af after the removal was terrible too.

Thanks girls It is basically just really bad AF symptoms, I had just forgotten how awful it is since it has been so long. I am feeling a little better today. The headaches and nausea has gone away, but the cramping is still here. I am going to chart for June and July and then we are going to start TTC in August. i hope my cycles cooperate too, I don't want to take clomid again this time if i can help it.

I was on the mirena until the end of January. We took it out and a week later I had a small period. Then two weeks later had the worst period of my life. I also had been on some sort of BC for 10 years. I hadn't had a period in 4 years and would have been 5 this year. Otherwise, I feel normal. I am going to piggyback RAC, it has a very small amount of progesterone in it. Though, I was told it shouldn't have much effect on raging hormones like the depo does. Any how, I hope that this helped a little.
