Lindsay - I am with the other girls on charting being a good bet for you. I have PCOS and only ovulated 2 times in 2006, but I knew when those times were! And the charts also helped me to know when I wasn't ovulating, so I could see my doctor about getting pills to end the cycle, and start over.

It really helped me learn about what my body was doing, so even though I only O'd twice, I got one of them.

Best of luck to you!

Default Help

Hi,

My name is montaria(27) and dh(2. We have been ttc for 3years. But I found out a year ago through a HSG that I had severe adhesions and I had a laparoscopy( I think this is the correct spelling). So my dr told us after the surgery we should be pregnant in about 6 mos(as of April 3, 2007)..... I had another HSG done in May and everything was clear. The dye spreaded as it should have. Well it is almost a year since the surgery and still no baby. I have recently started charting my temps and Im on the second month of doing so. I just want to be able to understand all of this ttc stuff. I have even taken Fertilitea and that hasnt done anything. Just wanted to get some feedback from the vets.

Charting will be very helpful to you. You may want to go to Ovulation Calendar and Ovulation Chart - FertilityFriend.com and open a free account. It will let you chart your temps and you can post the link to your chart here, so if you're just learning people here can look at your chart and help you interpret it. If you click on my name, and go to homepage, you will see mine. Most people have them here who are ttc. There is also a free charting course that gives you a lot of information on fertility friend.

Hi, need to ask a stupid question so I hope this is the place to put it.
I have been charting based on cycle and OPK's. I used the Answer with the 20 some odd strips that you dip. I never got a positive like the directions said, but around the time I should OV I would see a faint second line that over about five days would get darker, but not AS dark as the contol line, then taper off. The darkest it got would coincide with the day I would have ovarian pain. Now I've been reading so much I think I got myself confused.
I thought that this meant I never really got a true positive, but my RN said that she would interpret that dark line, though not as dark, as a positive Am I making any sense?

This month I am going to start BBT charting and I got a 7 day OPK since I have narrowed down OV that much. My stupid question is this: When should I start BD and for how many days? My hubby is not always the most amorous and certainly not on command He is a good sport, though and I just want to make sure that we are even BD when we are supposed to.

Thanks

Claire~ Welcome!
A positive opk is when the test line is AS DARK as the control line. Sometimes it is difficult to catch your lh surge, but is usully easiest if you use an opk 2 times a day. For me I used afternoon and evening. But, just because you do not get a positive opk, does not mean you will not ovulate.

As far as bd... my RE told me to bd every other day over the time you suspect ovulation. If you are charting, it will only take you a couple of cycles to figure out when that will be. Most people are fairly consistent with their o day, within a day or so.

Lauren- thank you for responding! I can't believe that I've managed to get so confused over one of the most "natural" things there is!

Wow, so OPK twice a day. didn't think to try that, that's a helpful tip. So, about BD: I know it's supposed to be every other day, but how far in advance of OV? I think I have read that BD after OV is relatively useless, so would it be like every other day 4 days in advance? 6 days? I know everyone must think I'm crazy asking about these specifics, and I hate to sound like an idiot. But it just kills me when DH looks at me with those tired puppy dog eyes and says "again?" like it's such a chore.

thanks again, and I'll go stock up on OPK's!

Claire - I'd try to get three or four good bd's in prior to O and even bd the day after O just for good measure.

Question Blood Work

Sorry I have been MIA a couple of days. My husband was involved in a car accident on March 13, 2008, but thank God he survived. But we actually found out some very interesting information from his blood work. The nurse stated that he has antibodies present in his blood that normally shows up when you have a blood transfusion but he has never had a blood transfusion. Since I have had corrective surgery and I am ovulating( I got positive readings on March 11 and 12) do you all possibly think this could be a strong possibility why we haven't conceived yet.

Montaria - Welcome back. I'm glad your dh wasn't hurt in the accident. I'm not sure about the antibodies interferring with ttc. The only thing I can think of that would be effected by it is after you get pg and if the antibodies are positive and you have negative blood then you would need the rhogam shot.

Hi Ladies! I'm new to TTC and have a quick question...I'm sure there will be more to follow! My periods are very short...all of about 3, maybe 4 days. And it looks like I have a 31 day cycle. Is such a short period normal/does it indicate any problems? I have been off birth control for about 6 months. My husband and I were recently married (YIPEE!) and this will be our first real month to try (I got my period right after we returned from our honeymoon). And if it matters, I'm 36. Thanks!

KC - Sounds like your cycles are very normal. I wouldn't be concerned with a 3-4 day period. Good luck! Join the rest of us in the monthly chat thread.

KC - a 3-4 day period is perfectly normal. As long as that's what it's always been, I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you've seen any kind of dramatic change in your cycle, that's something to probably take note of.

Thanks for the responses! I think my period has been that way for years whether I was on or off BC. I have started using the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor to help me track and so we don't waste time trying! I'll go over to the April TTC thread too.
