Claire - maybe over time you can switch from the nic gum to regular gum... thats probably a good way to start winding down the nic craving. And I hear you on the instant gratification... I've never had an anovulatory cycle though just delayed ones so I can't help you there. I don't know what brings on AF if you don't O.

Steph - I loved how they finally let us know Big's name! Do you think they'll call him John in the movie?

This cycle really annoys me since we BDed either 2 or 3 days before O. I feel like there's barely a chance for a BFP so its going to be extra hard to "behave" during the 2WW - I know I'm going to want to drink some beers on the boat next weekend.

RAC- The nic gum isn't SO bad, really. I got the new cinnamon flavor. the worst part, actually is after you spit it out, then you really need to rinse. It tastes a little like chewing on a tea bag.

Irene- Oh, I already have a piece of reg gum in my mouth most of the time.....when I'm not eating candy! I'm using the patch, so I only use the gum when I'm just at the end of my rope. Oddly enough, one piece is usually enough to make you wish you didn't need it! LOL
Sorry bout the BD timing, I KWYM. I'm sure you can have a few beers on the boat and be ok. Just don't start doing keg stands and beerbongs!

Claire - LOL! My days with any kind of bong are long gone!!!

This brings up another question I've been wondering about. When you're in the 2WW and trying to behave should you really only worry about after inplantation when there is shared bloodstream or can you do damage to a fertilized egg as it travels down the tube?

Irene ~ I doubt it. THEY knew his name the whole time, think about your friends. If someone has a nickname, that's who they are, you know? You know they don't play that last scene in the reruns the show on tbs at night? LOL! It's something I watch usually before bed, and they just pick and choose episodes, so I've seen that last one multiple times, and they never show the cell phone part.

Claire ~ When I quit, I really QUIT. One thing that helped me: Altoids and drinking a lot of iced tea. If you suck the Altoid, take a drink of something cold, and then inhale deeply, it kinda scratches the itch in your chest.

There are also oral medications that are supposed to help -- my doc offered me the literature last fall, but I told her I'd just quit when I was ready.

Steph- So you mean to tell me that you WILL quit cold turkey? Wow! You know that part in Wayne's World where they fall to the floor chanting "we're not worthy, We're not worthy"? Yeah, that's how I feel about you! My doc offered me that new Chantix stuff too (but told me not to use it if TTC, she said patch and gum were fine) I decided against that new pill b/c people are offing themselfes while on it. They've figured out that it blocks ALL pleasure receptors, so people are committing suicide. I'm moody enough already! LOL

The thing I've picked up now that I can't live without are peppermint candies-you know like in restaurants? I have to have one after I eat. Peppermint aids digestion anyhow, but you know how that post eating cig is!

Irene- When it comes to "behaving" in the 2ww, I think there is what the doc will tell you, and then reality. I mean, how many women out there had NO IDEA they were PG until several weeks into pregnancy and they acted as normal with smoking and drinking and everythings' fine. I think there has to be a happy medium somewhere in there. JMO.........although, I'll admit, I haven't drank once in a 2ww. However, I was such an alchoholic when I met DH, that abstaining entirely isn't that hard for me anymore. DH was the reason I quit drinking. I didn't have a drink for a year after he pointed out how bad I was-I drank a 1/2 a fifth of Jack EVERY weekday-don't even get me started on weekends! It was bad.

Claire, I'll spend the next few weeks cutting down more and more (down from 1 a pack a day to 1/2 a pack a day already), until I'm just having one or two a day at the end and then stop completely. If by 'cold turkey' you mean without assistance, purely will-power, then yes. I thought you meant was I going to go from smoking a pack a day like the past year to stopping the next day, then no, I'm not that good.

And yes ma'am, I know Wayne's World word-for-word. It was practically our high school theme, the whole movie...

Mare ~ My MIL seems like an angel compared to yours, sheesh!

Irene ~ I read that link and I like the line where the lady says her tap was ovulating I agree with you that the baby should have your stomach, I feel the same way, Cap'n gets sick at the drop of a hat. I got upset when on a plane to Vegas he got sick and these biatches behind us going to a bachelorette party started talking about things they could not go on (e.g. the tea cups at Disneyland) b/ they get sick. I almost turned around and said, "You better shut the F*** up before I have my husband puke on you!!!" I have the stomach of steel compared to him! I'm also way white too. Someone came up to me at my bridal shower and told me, "Get some sun, sweetie, you're pasty."

Can't wait for SATC this weekend, I think I'm going to drag Cap'n on Sunday.
We BD'd last night & he asked for the preseed and I told him I wasn't going to 'waste it.' I don't think he was happy with that, but hey, it is expensive and I only have 6 and I want to save them for the fertile patch.

The old AF showed up Thursday night so no need for me to test. I guess we will try next month. I am going to purchase a Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor. Any ideas?

Claire - I know what you're saying about people not knowing and behaving normally. I guess it just feels like since I do know that there could be a chance (however slight) I would be extra worried if I did get a BFP.

Mel - I can eat pretty much anything whereas DH has to run to the RR sometimes LOL! I feel bad for him but its also kind of irritating (I try not to let him know that)... you know like when I want to BD and he can't because he ate too many onions!! I save the preseed too - its way too much money to use as regular lube!!

Steph - you're probably right about them still calling him Big the whole time. I rarely watch the reruns because they're so edited - thats funny that they cut out the John part...

Claire - Hmmm, chewing on a tea bag. Sounds yummy.

Irene - I just read on FF Circles about drinking during the 2ww. Most of the girls there agreed that no real damage can come from it unless you're drinking several magnums or a 5th of vodka at one time. They mentioned something about risks being greater AFTER the first trimester when the placenta took over. I don't remember the reasoning for it, though. I wish I remembered which forum that was in..... maybe ttc over a year??

I was also wondering not just about drinking but about things like I was thinking of coloring my hair and I know they say to avoid doing that during the first trimester but I was wondering about the 2WW.

I think they debunked the 'no coloring of hair' thing in the past few years, can anyone confirm that? I would think the fumes would be worse than anything, so to make sure you're in an open space.

Irene - Everyone asks 'what if I'm pg', well, I've been asking myself, 'what if I'm not?', hence the couple of drinks that I had over the weekend. I quit putting my personal life on hold because of the small chance that I could possibly be pg. I think if I *knew* that I was pg, I would probably wait on the color, but I don't think I'd stay away from it in the 2ww. I guess it would all depend on how guilty or worried you'd be after the fact if you were actually pg. You figure, people get their hair colored, permed, drink like fish, do drugs while they're pg all the time. JMO

and yes, same as Steph, I've heard the rule changed and the biggest thing is the odor from the color mixture, which if you're having a professional color, it would be much safer than a home kit.

I'm getting to that point too Rebecca... so many months of changing my lifestyle for no reason will do that to you. Especially since things obviously can go wrong even when I do everything right. I probably would worry though so at least for the hair coloring I can wait another couple of weeks until AF arrives... I'm too cheap to get it done in a salon

Irene - I know. It is expensive, but I've found that you get better color at the salon. I hope since I am now technically a 'salon employee' I will get a discount!! I'm scheduled for a color next month.
