thank god things do change, even if slowly.....

my teen dd is reading Oliver Twist for her 9th grade english class summer assignment....and she's been shocked a couple of times by the terms used for both jewish & black people in the book.....'Mom, they said ***'.......i think she finds it more surprising there, in an official text, then in maybe a music video.......but it has been a good moment for talking about what people call 'others' or themselves, how terms/meanings/attitudes change over time, etc.........
