LittleRed ~ My understanding re the BBT vs other thermometers is that the BBT measures to the nearest tenth and is more sensitive, b/ the temp spike that indicates O is not necessarily by a whole degree but by tenths and I don't think that a regular thermometer is that sensitive. I use the thermometer that you are referring to and before that I had one that did not beep until ready to be read but it lacked a backlight. A good solution for you may be to get the kind of BBT that doesn't beep all the time and keep a flashlight along with pad and paper bedside so that you can jot down the temp after looking at it with the flashlight (if it doesn't have that feature where you can turn it on and it gives you the last temp read).
