Cube steaks with Gravy
1/3 cup flour
6 beef cube steaks( 1 1/2 lbs)
1 tablespoon oil
1 large onion, sliced and separated into rings
3 cups water, divided
1 envelope brown gravy mix
1 envelope mushroom gravy mix
1 envelope onion gravy mix
serve with mashed potatoes or cooked egg noodles
Place flour in large resealable bag. Add steaks, a few at a time, and shake until coated. In a skillet, cook steaks in oil until lightly browned on each side. Transfer to the crock pot. Add the onion and 2 cups water. Cover and cook for 8 hours on low or until meat is tender. In a bowl, mix together gravy mixes and remaining cup of water. Add to slow cooker; cook 30 minutes longer.
This recipe is fairly low in cost because this is not a tender meat normally. It needs to be cooked low and slow to it be tender. I made this the other night and the family loved it.
